Hi People

Just a couple of Q's regarding my Spousal sponsorship. Hope someone can help :)

1 - I am from NZ and am wanting to apply out land (Sydney office) due to the faster processing times. How do I go about this, as I haven't found any info on the cigc website regarding address etc. Are the forms the same?

2 - Do they screen for drugs in the urine/blood work they perform on me. I am not a regular drug user but would have smoked cannabis within the last little while. I know it can stay in your system for up to 1 month +

Thanks for reading! :D

Hey,

Welcome to the forum.
1- Sydney is one of the faster office, so you're lucky! you should get all the forms filled out (choose outland sponsorship here, + special instructions for Sydney) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp
In the forms, you have to choose which office will process your application - Sydney. Then you send everything together to Mississauga ( the address is here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/canada/mississauga.asp, choose the one for you, depending if it's courrier or regular post), and wait! :) first stage is currently 35 days approximately http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm-fc.asp but it varies - you can check on the website.
Then Mississauga sends your application to Sydney (if you're approved as a sponsor), and you wait again! :) until Sydney contacts you.

2-no idea. I know that they check for disease, but it's also up to the DMP to choose which examination they think is relevant, depending on your health situation. best is probably to call a DMP and ask directly.

If you have questions during filling out your application, and they are specific to your VO, there is 2 Sydney/Australia thread on this forum where people exchange information so you should be able to get answers if needed - don't hesitate to ask.

I would recommend you to read the first post by Leon (the first page, not the whole thread, unless you have time) it will give you a good overview of the process and what to expect.

Good luck,
Sweden

Just to add to Sweden's post, it's question 4 of this form which specifically asks you which office you're requesting to process your application:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM0008ENU_2D.pdf

I think it's enough to just write "Sydney" for question 4.....right Sweden?

(It's the first of the immigration forms listed here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp )

Good luck!

In general they are looking for contagious diseases that could potentially harm other Canadians, or conditions that will be a drain on our health care system. They are not routinely checking for recreational drug use, so the doctor would need to specifically request a test that is not part of the routine list they use (or covered in the price you're paying for the exam).

HOWEVER i think lots of the doctors that do the exams, ask if you use drugs, alcohol etc. So if an applicant told the doc they were a chronic drug user (though even if people are i doubt they admit this), the doc could order additional tests done and that info could get passed on to the VO and affect the application.

There are quite a few discussions on this site regarding drugs in medical tests... so just do a quick search on all the synonyms of pot and you should get a lot of info.

Thanks guys, sounds good.

Just to clarify. Even though I am from New Zealand, I can still apply via the Sydney office. I'm guessing they handle applications for down under?
