Applying out of Canada?

  1. Does CIC allow applying for citizenship from outside Canada? The presence requirement is met, we are just on an extended vacation and don't want to delay the application.
  2. If it is allowed, then how do dates on the requirement calculator work? If we are absent at the time of application, do we just put the current date?

You are supposed to be in Canada when you apply. I would wait until you have returned to Canada to apply to avoid issues with the application.

Do you have a source for that? I was not able to find that information on the CIC site.

And what if I apply from an embassy grounds. Technically it's Canadian soil :)
Side note : No, it's not. Contrary to popular belief, an embassy belongs to the host country, but is inviolable thanks to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. You're still in Germany when you enter the Canadian embassy in Berlin.
