I'm looking into getting a Temporary visitor visa for my mother who lives in Venezuela.

LAst couple of times we applied directly through the embassy in Caracas ( which doesnt exist anymore ), and now were considering on sending it by mail.

These are the required documents according to the website:

Document Checklist [IMM 5484] (PDF, 319.47 KB) December 2013
Visa office instructions – Visit [IMM 5878] (PDF, 336.01 KB) September 2015
Application for Temporary Resident Visa [IMM 5257] (PDF, 424.94 KB) November 2015
Family Information [IMM 5707] (PDF, 640.83 KB) September 2014
Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union [IMM 5409] (PDF, 636.51 KB) April 2015
Visa application photograph specifications
Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] (PDF, 648.31 KB) June 2015

Now, yesterday I thought I would maybe look into applying online, and came with a couple of problems, first, is that the documents requested differ a bit, specifically the family one, it asks instead for Family Information (IMM5645). One other document im asked for online is Proof of Relationship, which I have not provided in the past particularly ( her visa was approved both times we applied ).

So im a bit confused, i would think that we would need the same documents when applying online vs by mail.

One last thing, her english is not good at all so i thought i would do the whole process for her online ( if i go that route ), i just dont know if this will create an issue if somehow they detect that the IP address being used is from within Canada, i dont even know if they do this detection, but you never know.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. when can i insert images or links on my posts ?

- Instructions online are tailored for each case based on how you answer the tool.
- Instruction posted on CIC website are general and you have to decide what documents to send based in your specifics.

Yes, they have to match whether you are sending it online vs sending it by mail. The usual scenario is that the online tool gives you a leaner and more concise document checklist (as it drops documents that are not relevant to your case).

What people normally do is to generate a list using the online tool and either apply online or use that checklist for their paper-based application.

There is nothing wrong with helping your mother with her online application.

I've just finished my mother's visa application online. She live in Russia, but I applied from Canada. I filled all required form and downloaded the required documents. I applied for Visitor Visa less than 6 months. It took just 5 days for CIC to process her application. I didn't have any problems.
