I have a quick question that I need answering ASAP, I am going to be taking the applicationin for my baby to get her citizenship cert, Does my little one need to accompany me and my wife to the Russian Embassy in Moscow, or can she stay home as it is a long trip for her to go there. Does anyone have any experience with this??

Any updates?

I am in the same boat. getting all ready for citizenship cert. As far as I understand you can apply for it in Canada or you can send to Moscow. For passport later for a baby you have to apply in Moscow. Will not be it faster to apply for cert in Canada, then mail the cert to your wife, so she can submit all docs for passport?

Two options:

1) Apply for the citizenship certificate in Moscow and apply for a temporary passport for the newborn at the same time.

2) Apply for citizenship certificate in Canada which is faster, however, wait 2 months to get the letter from immigration stating that you have applied in order to be able to apply for the temporary passport for the newborn in Moscow.

2) means you get the citizenship certificate faster but the passport slower.

interesting time-frames published for proof of Canadian citizenship processing

From receipt of your application to final decision: 5 months
Note: If you are applying through a Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate from outside Canada, add an additional 3 to 4 months to the total processing time.
If you are applying on behalf of a minor child residing outside Canada and the application is submitted directly to the Case Processing Centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia, add an additional 6 to 8 months to the total processing time.

So, it's either wait for 8 to 9 months if applied outside of Canada where the child is
OR
wait for 11 to 13 months if applied in Canada when child is residing outside of Canada

Looks like sending docs to Moscow will be faster.... Anyone has real experience and went through this already? Do they really accept a note from CIC that you have applied for proof of Canadian citizenship to issue Canadian temporary passport? Where can I find more info about this. For both temporary and real passport they list an original of Canadian Citizenship certificate as a requirement.
