My girlfriend need to extend her visitor visa, which expires on the 18th of June. We are planning on handing in the application to extend it on the 8th of June (next Friday) -- which is clearly far less than the 30 days CIC requests.

Anyone know if this is a serious issue - or should we be fine?

ps: the plan is to explain in a letter exactly why we were delayed and to beg for forgiveness. There was family issues, travel and simple human error (we didnt realize).

As long as the application reaches Vegreville before her status expires, she is fine. No letter is required.

thanks! we were going to submit a letter because this is actually the second extension we've done and we are actually asking for time for her to stay here as we apply for PR outland sponsorship and plan our marriage. this is called dual intent/ do you think we still don't need a letter for the visa extension? would we be better off if we just don't mention the dual intent to apply for PR?

... I also asked about the risks and details about Dual Intent over here on a separate thread,

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/dual-intent-visitor-visa-extension-for-pr-outland-applicant-t106991.0.html,

just in case you had extra input! thanks

From my limited understanding....dual intent would not apply UNLESS you have already made application for PR. If you have only the TRV application on the table, then you HAVE TO PROVE you will leave the country. If you claim dual intent now, you are saying no I don't have the intention to leave because I want PR. It is a very fine line as I see it. Perhaps others on your other thread will have more suggestions as well. Good Luck.
