Everything I've seen has said otherwise. IEC are not extendable. In order to be eligible for Implied Status, a permit must be extendable. IECs can be renewable - but that isn't the same thing.

Refer to what PMM has said

You make good points amikety, You and Sweden have provided me with a wealth of useful information since I joined this forum.

My thoughts are that Implied Status is not the extension of a Visa but the Implied expectation that your new visa will be approved therefore you are not extending an IEC Visa just abiding by the conditions of it.

"A temporary resident must apply to extend their period of authorized stay before it ends. If they
have done so, their period of authorized stay as a temporary resident is extended by law until a
decision is made [R183(5)]. Such a person is considered to have implied status as a temporary
resident during that period."
"If you hold a work permit or a study permit, you can continue working or studying under the conditions of your previous permit if you have applied to extend your stay in Canada under the same category. However, if you have applied to extend your stay under another category, you must stop working or studying." Citizenship and Immigration Canada Request for Information Email.
AN IEC Visa is a work Visa so applying for an OWP is an application to extend your stay in Canada as a Worker therefore its in the same category.

For me, this was what I did, however If I encounter any problems in the future I will share them.

it wouldn't be the first time that a lawyer is not correct. unfortunately on immigration matters it happens... and when it does, their answer is "sorry, I didn't know!" - then, you're the one dealing with the consequences of it.
The guy that got escorted out of Canada (british citizen) because he worked on his "implied status" IEC also got the information straight from CIC call center who said he could work - turned out, he couldn't.
Then again - it worked for a few people, who didn't get checked etc. At the end - it's your decision, based on the information provided here and by your lawyer.
Good luck,
Sweden

If you hold a work permit or a study permit, you can continue working or studying under the conditions of your previous permit if you have applied to extend your stay in Canada under the same category. However, if you have applied to extend your stay under another category, you must stop working or studying.
This is where exactly "extendable" comes into play. Some work permits, e.g. IEC and PGWP, are not extendable, applicants cannot extend the stay under the same category. OP will thus need to extend his stay under the different category, therefore no implied status as IEC and must stop working.

But are not IEC an PGWP work permits in the "category" Work permits?

If you want to travel to Canada for reasons other than business or pleasure, you must apply for a visa in the right category, such as study or temporary work. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/
From what I understand "category" is much broader than just one type of Permit or Visa but encompasses all like permits and Visas.

Even If do have Implied Status under IEC how would I prove that to my employers?

My Work Permit and SIN card both expire on the same date (Jan 6th 2014) If I am on Implied status what Proof will I have to show the employers.

All my employers care about is the expiry of my SIN and the date on my work Permit..

Unless they send me some documentation which I have to take to the Canada Service Centers to extend my SIN I don't see how I can still work?

Some employers will accept your word for it, and some will require proofs. And I don't think that you will be able to get an official paper from CIC saying that you can continue working, as you have seen from this thread - it's an unclear area, and not recommended.
