Applying from SIN card from abroad

Is it possible? If one has done soft landing and plans to move to Canada soon but did not apply SIN number at time of soft landing, can that be done online, before moving back itself?

Maybe not a good idea given original documents required and any way takes no time at all at a Service Canada centre

You can apply online from US giving US proof of residence. It has worked for many and they send the SIN directly to US address. . but not sure for other countries, it could work, but postage reaching you safely through regular snail mail might be challenging
