My husband is a Canadian citizen, who moved to NZ for work 16 years ago, met me (a kiwi), we got married 13 years ago had 2 kids and are still living and working down under. His parents back in Canada are both ill and so he wishes to move back to Canada with us. We have already applied and got Canadian citizenship for our children. So now it is just me. We thought it would be simple but emailed the Sydney, Australia office to find out how to get me Permanent Residence and they emailed back to read the website and to apply to Missisaga first. Yet the website is so confusing/it contradicts itself. Thank goodness for this forum! I would rather get the application right the first time. So need your help

We may have jumped the gun but have filled out the following forms:
For my husband (the sponsor) IMM1344, 5481 & 5540
For myself (the applicant) IMM0008, 5669, 5490, & 5406
I have had the medical done here in NZ and have the Imm1017
On the IMM5491 document checklist form, it asks for a pile of stuff at the bottom, "identity and civil status documents as per document list provided with The Immigrants Guide", "travel documents and passports as per document list provided with The Immigrants Guide". I cannot find this Immigrant Guide anywhere.

Anyway, my main question I need help on is do we send the application form (all the above forms)off to Case processing in Missisaga first? Or are we supposed to be going through the Sydney, Australia office? And do I need to send my passport in? (I travel alot with work)

We appreciate any advice
Cheers
FlyingKiwi :)

Yes, you mail everything to Mississauga, where they will do the first part of the application, which is checking that your husband is eligible to be a sponsor. They will then mail the application to Sydney.

You MIGHT eventually have to send in your passport, but that won't be until the end of the process, and a lot of people have simply been asked for a photocopy of all of the pages of the passport (although others have had to hand in the physical PP)

Also - you're lucky because Sydney is a fast office, so you might be done pretty fast, especially if you have proofs ( and well, married for so long and children etc, that's good proof)... as chipits mentioned - as you are visa-exempt, normally you won't be required to submit your passport anymore, you will normally receive the COPR ( confirmation of PR) directly at home, and you can travel to Canada with it (+ your passport) and land directly as a PR at the airport. You might not have to send your passport at all.
Good luck,

Hey flyingkiwi,
You can join us in the Aus/NZ thread here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/australian-or-nz-applicants-share-timeline-here-t105255.240.html

there is also a spreadsheet for applications going through the sydney office which you can check out to give you an idea of timeframes. The link is in my signature, let me know when you send your application and I will add your details.
