Hi guys,
My degree is in Spanish and I've worked as a teacher for 5 years. However, I have been applied for and have been accepted to do a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Toronto. I have read a number of comments about study mismatch and needing to show career progression but it seems that no one in Barbados which is where I am applying from is aware of this requirement. Therefore, I have found it impossible to find anyone to help me to figure out how to get around this. I have a few questions to ask:
1. Is the requirement to show career progression and to avoid study mismatch a requirement for all countries?
2. I understand from this forum that the best thing to do is to write a SOP but I'm not sure how to go about it. I'm interested in pursuing a degree in business but I'm sure there must be more that I need to say.
3. My parents are both retired teachers. I was approved for a student loan and I'm planning to use their bank statements as proof of funds. There are sufficient funds on their account. But will the fact that they are retired be a problem? Should I include my bank statement as well although I don't have enough funds?
4. Do you think I will get my permit in time. I will be applying on August 7th. The processing time for Barbados is 1 week so I am banking on getting an answer in time. School starts on August 20th.

Your response to any of these questions would be a great help!

whatever immigration requires, you give them. a positive decision depends on the particular officer handling your case. They will want a job letter, recent pay stubs or your bank account details as country ties to prove you will return to your home country. What you can do for proof of funds is to show your account and have your parents get bank drafts from their banks in your name and make sure that are convertible to foreign currency. your parents retired status wont matter. The student loan acceptance letter is perfect as well, add a copy to your application. If you're applying online it takes about 4 biz days to receive a response. As for your first question dont overthink it.
I am bajan. just applied and got refused so working on reapplying. But this is my 2 cents due to their reasons for refusal letter and speaking directly with them.
Good luck!!!! please post and let me know how it went

Hi kikstaroxy. I'm so happy to find someone who is also applying from Barbados and I really appreciate your response. I do have a job letter but it says nothing about returning to my job after my studies as that will not actually be the case. Would that letter still suffice? Also, I just wanted to confirm whether you submitted a police certificate of character with your online application?

I pray that you are successful with your next application. Please keep me updated as well.

Write a cover letter. Explain clearly what you wanna do and why. I included the certificate but if its not listed as a requirement then its optional whether you want to add it in the additional documents section. Never mind, the letter its just to confirm you are employed.
Thanks for the well wishes dearie. Good luck again. Praying for you as well!!
