Applying for visitor extension whilst applying outland?

Hi, I am currently living in the UK and my fiance is a Canadian citizen living in Canada, we are getting married July this year and I plan to go back to Canada with him. I think I would like to apply outland through London due to apparently quicker processing times and it being easier to leave the country if need be, but what I would like to know is that if my application takes longer than the 6 months I will hopefully have as a visitor visa, can i still apply for an extension on that visa or would I need to return to the UK? Also are the extensions normally successful and how long are they likely to last?

I will no longer have a job in the UK at that point, however I will still have family there so somewhere to live. Is there anything else I could use to prove that I would leave the country, other than a return ticket (which I already have booked) and bank accounts?

Thanks

i had been here for almost 6 months on a visitors visa, then i had a temp workers visa for another 6 months and at the end of that i applied for change/restoration of status and got a year more of visitors visa (i requested a year).

Your mileage may vary of course....

You can apply for extension. I asked my stay to be extended until December 8th, 2009, and they gave me until August 13th, 2010.

When I applied for extension, I didn't prove that I would leave the country. I only said I would like to stay in Canada with my husband during the processing of my sponsorship, and included proofs of that (Letter from CPC-Mississauga and Acknowledgment of Receipt letter sent by the Consulate) and proof that he could support me since I couldn't work.

Hey everyone!
I have a quick question...I would also like to apply for an extension for my husband when he arrives in June. I'm pregnant and currently receiving csst, will this be a problem since I will tell them I'm responsible for his expenses (considering he's just a visitor and can't work)?
Thanks for your time!!

Clarify, please, what is "csst". If it's government assistance, you'll not be eligible to sponsor him and that could affect the approval of an extension application also as he'd not be able to be approved for PR.

I think it's the Quebec counterpart of Workers Compensation Board. Check with CIC as to whether the payments are considered social assistance.

i'm applying outland, while living in canada, and when they gave me the visitor record at the border -- we'd showed up at the border with all our application papers, marriage cert., relationship evidence, etc, in a giant envelope, and told them we were ready to submit once we were herek -- they told me straight out that i could extend my visitor record beyond the 6 months stated on it. i didn't ask, they border immigration officer cheerfully told me this was the case. i'm filing now for the extension; it expires june 5th.

csst is not government assistance. it's payments made to people who have either gotten injured at work or who can't work due to various situations...in my case, because I'm pregnant and work with young children in a daycare, I'm not allowed to work (safety precautions from the children as they could pass on different ailments to my unborn child).
(It's like early maternity leave!!!)
I will find out, but I was told by a friend it shouldn't change anything...I hope cic knows, cause sometimes they don't seem very helpful!!
Thanks!

It's only "assistance of last resort" (colloquially known as "welfare") that they're concerned about. CSST does not fall into that category. It should be like "disability" payments, which are okay.

I have question regarding the process of visitor visa extension. I have read in CIC website that the process takes around 60days to extend visitor visa online. I wonder when do I need to send passport to get new visa during the process. How long will it be that I won't have the passport with me?

I am currently applying for PR outland through Buffalo. By Aug 2010, I will have to extend visitor visa and at that time, it would be around 4 month that my PR is under process. I want to make sure in case Buffalo request me to go for interview or even ask for my passport, I will have passport with me that time.

Thanks :)

What is your citizenship? Are you visa-exempt (for example, American)? I don't believe that anyone needs to send away their passports to get an extension and I'm sure that visa-exempt visitors don't.

I am from a visa exempt country, when my visa extension was approved all that happened was a visitor record arrived in the mail.
I did not send my passport away.

"Note: Applicants who require a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) to enter Canada: A renewal of a study or work permit or extension of visitor status does not affect your TRV. It is your responsibility to ensure your TRV remains valid if you wish to re-enter Canada after leaving. After leaving, you must apply for and obtain a TRV by applying to a Canadian visa office outside of Canada (see Application for a Temporary Resident Visa to Visit Canada-IMM 5256)"

As I understand it, the duration of your TRV may be longer that the period of your current visit. When you "extend your visitor status," you are extending is the period of your current visit. Your TRV is unaffected.

I'm a little confused by the visa stuff. Maybe someone with more experience with visas can say more.
