They don‘t need an authorization letter. That is the benefit.

Applied end of December for parent TRV but from what I am reading, TRV for extended family with authorization is faster than TRV for immediate family

I am PR of Canada and planning to apply TRV for my parents. Is it a good time to apply? is there any downside in applying during COVID? How long it takes for the entire process to complete?

Yes thats right. Mine as extended came through and parents is still pending.

Processing times are long but you can apply. Where are your from and have your parents given biometrics?

From India. I think Biometrics request comes after I apply for TRV. Hence no biometrics yet.

I applied for my wife on Oct 10 and got approved on Jan 11. Didn't apply for any exemption from travel restrictions as its not required.
