Greetings All,

I have a PG Open work permit that expires in Sept 2020. I had applied for my spouse's TRV (Open work permit) last year but she was pregnant by the time we received medical request and so there were some delays there. We had our child last month and now i am submitting the updated medical report with X-Ray for my wife.
I am confused about applying for my child though. I was told by few friends that i will have to apply for a visitors visa that will be valid for 6 months only, is this true? can someone guide me on this. And how about the Health card for child in Ontario region?

Thanks in advance for the time.

Best Regards

Your child needs a TRV. IRCC will decide how long it is valid for. Visitor status will be granted upon entry by CBSA and can be matched to the validity of your work permit. Health care for the child depends on your coverage.

There will be a 3 month wait no matter what for OHIP. Your wife will only get coverage if she can show that she will be working for over 6 months. Your child should get coverage after 3 months of being in Ontario. You will only qualify for child benefit when you have been working in Canada for 18 months. Assume you meant that you are current on PGWP.
