Hi guys,

I am going to apply for a study permit to pursue my masters this week and had a few questions. I know the office I have to send my application to is based in the states, am I able to apply for this online? or do I have to do it by paper?

Would it be advisable to attach a statement to explain after working three years I have decided to pursue a masters to build on my undergraduate degree to help me get to the profession I want.

Please, any and all feedback would help.

Thank you

Hi,

1. You can apply online or submit paper based application. I did not see there are much difference in that.

But in online application, after getting your CIC account, you shall be asked few questions which you have to answer correctly and you shall receive a documents list that you have to submit. So in this way, you know will know which documents you need.

Similarly, when you will apply in paper, you will receive the list of documents. So, either way is possible and if you submit right documents, either application would take same time, if you are concerned about that.

2. It is always advisable to submit a Letter of Explanation with your documents. Though it is not a mandatory, it should explain your purpose of application. Your background, your program of study and your professional background can be linked. It is similar to an interview.

hello, thank you for your response. I prefer to apply online as it will be received faster as compared to if I mailed it to the states ( I will lose some time in the days that it takes to get there)

I will also include a letter of explanation just to support my application.

Thank you again

Hello

Any news for your study permit? Is it safe to apply within canada?
Thanks

Hi

Yes so I applied from within canada to the office in Los Angeles. I applied by mail though, I did next day delivery by noon. Cost me like $40 bucks by DHL but was worth it.

As I got my visitor status it qualified me to apply for a study permit.

Hello,
How long it takes to get study permit from within Canada?
Is it easy...?no harm or any chances of rejection?
Did u got it?
Thanks

Hope90, why did you apply by mail? Why not online? Is mail better than online application when applying from LA consulate?

Online is much better than mail
The processing time for online is less than the processing time for the mail
Easy to track your application
Both ways are safe since you're in Canada
Good luck

May I ask on what visa you were in Canada before applying for study permit to Los Angeles VAC? And where are you from?
And Los Angeles VAC didn't require an interview with you in order to grant study visa?

I was on a visitor visa when I applied for the study permit . I'm originally from Ghana and no they did not require an interview . The interview is at the processing officers discretion.

Hope this helps.

I also included a statement of purpose , explaining why I wanted to go back to school and how I came to this decision and how it will benefit me

So did you get your Study Permit?

I did get the study permit but I also did get it processed faster as I had a family emergency and needed to leave Canada ASAP.

As long as all your documents are in order you should have no issue getting it
