Applying for Student Visa within Canada

Hello,

I have a question regarding the application for a student visa. I'm a british citizen so am i right in thinking that I can enter Canada as a visitor just with a valid passport? If so, am i then viewed as a temporary resident? I've read that i can apply for a student visa from within Canada as long as i have temporary resident status for 6 months. So, my question is, instead of applying for a student visa in London could i wait till i arrive in Canada and apply for it there??? Just by changing my status from a visitor to a student?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers..

My advice is never take a chance. What was the reason for you not to become straight forward by travelling to Canada with an institution willing to admit you as a student?

I actually agree with Dony. It is better for you to apply for a study permit right away. Going to Canada and then applying, obviously trying to circumvent immigration law, will not help you in any way.

Why do you want to do this, Rob? It is not going to help your case...

I know it's risky but I want to do this because i would really like to begin my studies and return to Canada in January. I have just returned to the UK following a year on a student working visa and have got a job lined up related to my studies as well as paying rent for an apartment in Canada etc. I want to avoid going through the UK office as i realise that i am very unlikely to have my student visa in time for a January return. I know that i won't be able to study and work before i get the Student visa and off-campus work permit but it would enable me to prepare and do my own research planning for my studies far easier than it is for me at present in the UK..
