We want to apply for OWP now after having submitted online inland, but we already had to apply for a visitor record and that is still processing. Is it possible to apply for OWP now?

There is an online screening questionnaire in the portal that asks when status expires. We don't have a new expiry date yet as it is maintained status. If we put the original date, the questionnaire says she is out of status and must apply for restoration of status (which isn't true because we have the receipt from the visitor record submission).

How do we submit this? I noticed only the online screening asks when status expires. This isn't a question on the actual application. So do people print the paper application, validate it in Adobe Reader and mail it in?

Yes you can apply for the OWP in addition to the visitor record. Just to warn you that the wait for OWP is approximately 6-8 months so many are receiving PR at around the same time as OWP.

The visitor record is still processing though so we don’t have an expiration date for the questionnaire in the online portal. If we give the original status expiry date, it keeps saying she is out of status and needs to restore

They putting all 9s or all 0s and see if that works. If not you’ll have to pick a date in the future and include an explanations about your situation.

Hello, my husband has a PR in Canada.
We already applied inland sponsorship in september 2022, received the AOR, passed the medical and waiting....
I had also applied the spouse open work permit SOWP when i received the AOR and waiting...
My question is. I am staying in canada since july 2022 and it will be 6 months in december, my multiple entry visa expires in 2024.
Can I stay as maintained status since we are waiting for sowp????
I dont want to be out of status in december so i dont know if i need to extend my stay as visitor or it is done automatically when i applied sowp.
Please help clarify.

How did you work it around in the end?

Since you submitted the OWP after AOR and still had legal status at that time, you do not need to extend your visitor status. Obviously, do not leave Canada before you complete the PR process as that may invalidate the Maintained Status (previously known as Implied Status). Hopefully, you're almost at the PR finish line!

Why she doesn't need to extend her visitor status? Does applying for OWP gives rights to reside temporarly?
