Hi All

My canadian citizen fiance and I ( british citizen ) will be getting married before the end of the year here in Canada.

At the moment i am here on a temporary resident visa ( being from the UK i automatically qualified for this on entry into Canada ) for six months.

Due to a few issues we can't get married until i've got about one month left of the six months ( sometime around november )

The thing is, we are going to apply to extend my temporary residency on the grounds that we want to stay together whilst the permanent residency application is going through.

This is the question : will they want us to have plenty of savings in the bank to prove i can support myself while i am waiting for the permanent residency via spousal sponsoship to go through ?

I understand that finances arent taken into acount for spousal sponshorship ( as long as my wife isnt on welfare whcih she isnt )

But we just wanted to know if we will have to have savings in the bank so that the extension of my temporary residency is succesful .

Hope you understand the question.

Thanks

MaTeh

hello, in the spousal sponsorship category you do not need to qualify for a minimum salary in order to sponsor your spouse, nor do you need to provide bank records or information, other than to prove that you are working and not on government assistance.

Applying for spousal sponsorship

Hi

I am getting married on 28th of December 2014, my faincee lives in India and I am from Canada a citizen.
I got engaged on 16th August and got Civil marriage on 22nd August 2014.
My Fiance and I felt that we should start our paper work by now and submit. But according to some few people
suggestion we should wait till our church marriage on 28th Dec gets done.
Also in the month of June 2014 my Fiancee has applied for visit visa twice and got rejected.
and i feel it would be a waste again to apply for visit visa.

Kindly Suggest what I should do and when I should start applying.

Regards,
Andy

When you apply to extend your visitor visa, write a letter saying that you have applied for PR, when you applied, include a copy of the fees paid document, etc. Make it clear you intend to stay during the duration and how you want to be with your spouse, etc. No guarantee but others on this forum have done the same (I am doing this in about 2 weeks). Show financial support documents if you have them. Does your spouse work in Canada?

Good luck!

It's one factor the visa office will consider in deciding whether to extend your visitor's visa. They want to know that you have some means of providing for yourself while you're staying here. As the previous poster noted, if your fiancee is working and has a place for you stay and you've got a PR application in process at the time you ask to extend your visitor's visa, you'll probably be okay to extend.
