We are Canadians living in the US and had a child recently here. With our previous child we first applied for a US passport, then used that as one of the forms of identification (the only one, accompanied by a letter).
This time around, due to the pandemic, the passport application process in the US has slowed significantly. So applying for that, then waiting months for the passport, then another 5+ months for the Canadian citizenship certificate would take upwards of a year at least.
Is it worth applying for our new child using just their birth certificate and a letter saying they have no photo ID? Their website seems to imply as long as you include a letter explaining why, it'll be okay, but I was wondering if anyone else has tried something similar.
I read on some other sites you could include a signed letter from the child's pediatrician containing a picture attesting to the child's identity but I can't find any mention of something like this on an official site.
