Hi everybody,

I'm not sure whether you can help me, but it's always worth a try. I've applied for permanent residency (along with my common-law partner) through the Quebec Skilled Worker program while I was back in my home country (Italy), and I was granted PR status a few months ago. In the meanwhile, I also got a job in Germany, where I'm currently working and living. Now, I'm re-entering Canada at the end of September to apply for the PR card (the deadline for my case is January 2016), but I'm only staying for a few days as I obviously have to fly back to Germay to get back to work. Do you think this may be an issue while being interviewed by the immigration officer? I mean, the fact that I'm leaving Canada just a few days after re-entering, could it be a problem? And, above all: since I'm only staying for a very short time, I won't definitely be able to pick up my PR card whenever it'll be ready. Would I need a PR Travel Document to go back to Canada in the future? I went through the various forms, but they seem to address individuals who have lost their PR cards and need a replacement, which is not my case.
I intend to fulfill my contract here in Germany, but I'm indeed planning to move back to Canada once it runs out next spring, however it seems that I'm in a rather complicated situation. Would you have any feedback about this matter? Thank you very much for your time!

Cheers

So have you 'landed' in the past or are you actually landing on this September trip? Border agent may based on your response that you are here for a few days not process the new PR Card request which happens at first landing. He/she may state you apply later when you are back living in Canada. Hopefully he/she processes the PR Card regardless. Once its mailed to the Canadian address you can get it couriered to you in Germany. If you don't get the PR Card this time round you can use your Italian passport to return to Canada. One thing to note is that effective March 15, 2016 as a visitor visa exempt national you would typically need an Electronic Travel Authorization prior to air travel back to Canada but as a PR you don't need it but then again CIC needs you to hold a PR Card. The eTA scheme is a rush primarily revenue raising scheme that hasn't been well thought out for PRs. Hopefully by the mandatory date CIC will have figured out what they need for PRs without a card but are visitor visa exempt.

Hi,
And thank you very much for your reply. This will be the first time in Canada since receivingthe COPR. Since it will expire soon, I didn't have any choice but to re-enter now, even though, as I said, I'm currently working in Germany. Anyway, let's hope for a positive outcome. Thanks again!
