Hey guys,

My oath is next week and I am filling up my application for getting Canadian passport (so I can submit it 48 hours after taking Oath). It says they need the original Citizenship certificates to be submitted to them. I have a couple of questions about this:

1) Are they going to return the certificate to us?
2) If not (or in rare case if the certificate gets lost in mail), do we need the certificate for anything else after taking oath?

Thanks guys

I was under the impression that you get your certificate after your oath in person.

If you apply for passport in person, they will just scan the citizenship certificate and 2 valid I.D. and return it to you right away.
If you will apply by mail, they are suggesting to use courier so you can keep track of your valuable documents. They will also mail it back to you.

I agree with bellie.

I applied for a 10-yr validity a week after taking my oath. I was given a receipt and on the receipt it tells you when they will mail the passport which was after two weeks. But I received it after a week :)

The above apply when you go to a Passport Canada office, not Service Canada or any other receiving agents, I think.
Cool, Vancouver Passport Canada office is pretty close to my office, I will go there.

Thanks!

You can even try the Surrey passport office-No parking hassels !
You can also pick up your passport in person by paying $20 extra, that way you will be sure of getting it in your hands- no mailing anxiety !
:)

Surrey is too far away from my house. The Vancouver office is like 400 meters from my office, I can easily go there.

Thanks!
