Hi guys,

I was under the impression that you can apply for NEXUS using only your CoPR as proof of your Canadian permanent resident status. However as I was filling out the online application I got to the immigration status section and it only had options to enter your PR Card number. I couldn't find a way to do it with only the CoPR.

My questions:
1) Is it correct that you can apply with CoPR only?
2) If so, am I missing something obvious? How do I do this?

It's possible that the COPR is only acceptable when submitting a paper application. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexus/paper-papier-eng.html#_Mandatory_Documents

Yeah I think you might be right. In which case it'll probably be quicker in the long term to just wait for my PR Card to arrive and do the online application. I've had quite enough of waiting for paper applications to process, LOL. ;)

Thanks!

??

You can apply for NEXUS card online without PR or CoPR. Anybody who wants to go through customs (US citizen or Canadian citizen) can apply for it. I did apply months before my PR or CoPR came through.
Make sure and apply for "NEXUS only" instead of "Global entry". NEXUS only gives you both NEXUS and Global entry (fast TFS check) while Global entry only gives you Global with no NEXUS.

I'm not a US or Canadian citizen though. And in the online application there's a mandatory question requiring you to provide your PR Card number. I'm not doubting you since you're speaking from your own experience, but I had thought this was not possible. I'll have to look into it a little closer I think!

Yeah, I just checked again... it definitely requires a PR Card number (screenshot).

Has anyone managed to skip this step at the enrolment stage and then shown the PR Card at the interview? I'm guessing that it won't let me submit until I fill it out.

Looks like I'm waiting for the card... estimated 38 days to go.

Sorry to bring back an old post. I put in my CoPR number I think when I submit my online application, and after 1.5 month it came back as conditionally approved and all I need to do now is schedule the interview. I will show them my PR card in the interview I guess (although I am still waiting for it)

I read on their site that you had to be a resident for three years before you could apply for the Nexus Card. Is that true?
They changed it a little bit (thanks Harper), but it's still there for many people:

The Beyond the Border Action Plan announced by Prime Minister Harper and President Obama on December 7, 2011 committed to increased benefits to the NEXUS program.

As part of this commitment, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has lifted the three-year residency requirement for the NEXUS Program.

Effective June 30, 2012, Canadian and American citizens living outside of Canada or the United States or who have recently returned to either country and have not previously been able to meet the three-year residency requirement are now eligible to apply.
If you were a student, or otherwise lawfully resident the past 3 years, you are welcome to apply though.

No problem digging up an old thread, and thanks for the update!

That's interesting that it worked for you! I wish I'd have done that at the time, so I would save myself another month of time. I'm apparantly less than 10 days away from receiving my PR card now though, so I think just to make sure everything is smooth I'll just wait. But I do appreciate you sharing your info - let us know what happens once you go to the interview, so others in the future will know that this can definitely be done with a CoPR number. :)

Sorry to dig up the old thread. I am in the same situation where I would like to apply for Nexus with proof of Landing. While completing the Nexus application online I need to fill in the 'Permanent Resident Card number / A number' and expiry date.
What information from CoPR can I use here?

I got my Nexus card just by applying with CoPR. I used the UCI number in CoPR as it is also your PR number. Also, I calculated 5 years from my landing date (17/01/2019) which is 17/01/2024 as my expiry date in the Nexus card online application. I went to the interview after I got my PR card. The actual expiry date was different in the PR card (05/02/2024). In the interview, they did not worry on the expiry date. They just verified my documents. PS: I have modified the actual values of the dates above for security purpose.
