You dont require it for applying, CoPR is sufficient but once you take up the job you will require SIN.
To finalize you candidature, your employer would need your Sin number and a ID (Passport will do), so you would need SIN in that situationprseeker said:

You do not need anything of those while applying for a job. But you need to give it to them as soon as you get a job.
I was also working in the US. I had a PR card but no SIN card. They did ask for the SIN card but I told them I do not have one but I will give it before joining the firm. They agreed to it. I came to Canada 3-4 days before joining the job, applied for SIN and gave it to my employer before taking the job.
