Hello,

I have just been granted Canadian citizenship as my mother was born in Canada. My partner and I are New Zealand citizens. My partner and I (of over 3 years) are looking to move to Canada next year. My partner was going to apply for a 1 year temp working visa, which should be pretty straight forward. My question is, what would be the best way to start the application process for me to sponsor her? I see that out-bound visa times for the first step (me applying to be a sponsor) is way shorter in the case of out-side of Canada. BUT we intend to move to Canada in February of next year. Would we be able to start the process as out-bound and then finish as in-bound without breaking any laws or causing any trouble? - Also, can you be on a temp working visa while we are also in the process of applying for sponsor visa?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You have to pick either the inland or outland application method - you can't switch between them once your application is filed. You can file as outland and then move to Canada while the outland application is still being processed.

There are no issues being on a temporary work permit while the sponsorship application is in process.

I would recommend you join the Family Sponsorship section of this forum if you have any further questions.
