hello.
i got my visa in Feb this year (applied in January 2013 )and im going to Canada on 31th july. i want to know in order to get Canadian passport how long do i have to stay in Canada? and are there any other requirements for this?

To qualify to apply for citizenship you must physically live in Canada for 4 out of 6 years after you become a PR. So the earliest you will qualify to apply for Canadian citizenship would be August 2019 (assuming you don't leave Canada once you arrive). Processing times for citizenship applications are anywhere from a few months to well over a year. Once you are a citizen you will be able to apply for a Canadian passport.

thanks..but when i applied i heard it was 3 out of 5 years..this new change effects all the applicants or only the new ones?

There was never a 3 out of 5 year rule. The old rule was 3 out of 4 years.

The new rule is 4 years out of 6 and it applies to all applicants (including you). It doesn't matter when you landed and became a PR.

As I explained before - the new rule applies to everyone who applies for CITIZENSHIP as of June 11, 2015. You haven't applied for citizenship yet - so the new rule applies to you. You can argue all you want - but this is the answer. The new rules apply to you.
