Applying for Canada from Bangladesh with a Criminal Record from US/Deport (2008)

Hello everyone, just a quick question before i proceed with any further plans.

I moved to USA at a very young age and lived their illegally due to being scammed out of legal papers by a lawyer. After 9/11, becoming legal became even harder so my family and I stayed waiting for an opportunity.

Skipping ahead, after graduating high school I was slammed with a misdemeanor drug charge for being involved in a drug deal. I did 2 months in jail for that then later was caught for immigration and was deported (voluntary Departure). My family was fine and now they have a green card.

Now its been almost 6 years, I am currently in Bangladesh and have a Business Degree (BBA) and been working for the past 5 years. I have expertise in Marketing and Web Development.

I would like to continue my studies in Canada where I can live close to my Family who are in USA.

Is it possible to apply or get a lawyer to help me beat my "inadmissible" status. I do not want to lie on my application when it asks - if I was convicted or not.

I would like to apply for either Student Visa or Migrate their if that's possible.

If anyone can advice something for me then that would be great! I did run in to a site where they assist people to go to Canada but lost the URL.

Thanks.

ps. please don't reply with judging what I did in my past. That will just waste both of our time.

I empathise with you my friend. But I highly doubt you are getting any kind of admissibility. Europe / New zealand should be a better option for you. Try non english countries like Latvia Lithuania Estonia as they are more welcoming.

Thanks for the bad news. Was thinking about New Zealand also because I have a lot of career opportunities their as well. Canada would be a better place since it was closer to my family. Thanks for the info.

Anyone else have any advice or previous experience?

Thanks

1. More than 6 years? Technically, you are eligible to apply for 'criminal rehabilitation', chances are almost nil, considering your illegal status in USA.

I read about criminal rehabilitation and I am eligible but as you said chances are nil, that's what I wanted to see from others past experience and knowledge.

Do you know of any Canadian Immigration Lawyer who I can talk to?

If you want to come to Canada, you should forget about any temporary visa (e.g. student visa, work permit, visitor visa). You can expect any / all of these to be refused due to the US voluntary departure and the drug charge.

You should be focusing on applying to immigrate if you want to come to Canada. As others have said, you'll have to start with the criminal rehabilitation since right now you are inadmissible to Canada.

As others have mentioned above, a temporary permit like a student visa is probably out of the question.

Although if good university chooses to fund you for something like a PhD, then you have a shot for a student visa. This requires a very good academic record though.

Migrating to Canada is your only other choice and I dont think you qualify with your current skill set.

Honestly though, your time would be better spent trying to get back into the U.S. Since your family is there now with a green card, cant they do something for you? Claim you as a dependent or something?

Change your passport thats only option you have us and canda dont share date they have to made special request for your record when they smell it if you mention criminal charges in the application they will straight away ban your entry internally. If you mentioned you neither travel Us nor abroad they will accept your application

I wouldnt recommend doing this ...u already r in trouble once. This could get u in trouble later if u decide to apply for PR and they do a background check they have ur biometrics I am not sure but US has ur biometrics too right. It is better to not get a visa honestly than getting it dishonestly. U could put ur family through the same thing ur going through right now if ur caught later in ur life. Think about the long term effects of ur actions.

Thanks everyone for the advice. It was very helpful and I will be pursuing getting my MBA from New Zealand and then applying for migration in Canada or USA later on.

If anyone can provide some links to forums and sites for where I can discuss and get new information regarding studying in New Zealand then please let me know.

Thanks again everyone!!
