Hi,
I am Canadian permanent resident. I have been in Canada for a year now. I am currently studying. My husband works. I want to apply for US visa.
My question is should i go ahead and apply or wait?
I heard that embassy people reject you if you are not working. Is it true?
Is being in Canada for only a year is problem?
Please help.
Appreciated.

are you getting a tourist visa?

I applied only after a month or so of being a permanent resident.
I was interviewed for literally 2 mins. Asking me when I was married and what I was gonna do in the US. (I answered to go shopping.lol)

Got approved a 10 year b1/b2 visa (Business or pleasure)

Before the interview date I put in a lot of effort to show my ties here in Canada. Name it I brought it. needless to say all that effort went to waste cause the VO didnt even look at it.

But like I always say to everyone it is better safe than sorry.

Goodluck!

hope that helps!

My wife only brought her PR card, her passport, old passport containing her old US visas, and appointment letter. Having a PR card with you is most critial. They will want to see that. My wife was asked if she is PR during the 2 hour screening process. She said yes and they asked to see it.

After going through 2 hours of pre-screening BS, she was finally called up. Interview lasted 5 mins tops. Officer didn't bother looking at any documents she had. Was asked 3 questions. "Are you married?" "What's the purpose of trip?" And "why are you just applying for visa after 5 years of marriage". My wife replied saying she was living in US with husband prior to moving to Canada. Officer was satisfied with that. Said to her, your visa is approved. Is "city" is where you want passport sent? She said yes. It was done. Finished.

3 days later she picked up her passport at local courier office.
