Hi, I have just found this site and registered. I am from New Zealand and am presently in Canada on a visitors visa. I have a job offer, and my prospective employer is in the process of applying to HRSDC for an LMO. The three questions I have are; 1) How long does it usually take to get an LMO?
2) Once I have obtained an LMO, can i then drive to the border with the LMO, offer of employment, fee etc... and get the Canadian border security officer to process my application and approve me for a work permit then and there?
3) If you have done this successfully before, can you tell me what to expect from the border guard with regards to the proceedure, questions they are likely to ask, documentation they may want to see, and anything else.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks.

1. Anywhere from 6-16 weeks for the LMO after advertising the position.
2. Yes. If you don't require a medical.
3. You go to the US side, get an administrative rejection, return to the Canadian side, with your LMO, passport, job offer, $150. You may be asked for a Police Certificate.

Hi PMM

Thanks for your response. Can you please explain what an Administrative Rejection is, and if a rejection from the US border will affect me in the future if I want to travel to the US.

Would I also need to complete the work permit application forms and present them to the border guard?

Thanks.
