Applying for a Visitors Visa, UK Citizen?

Hello,

Me and my mother will be taking a trip to Canada next year to Toronto for 2 weeks as a birthday present to her since she's always wanted to go, the dilemma is, I was stopped from entering Canada a few years ago, the IO thought I was going to stay in the country for work (even though I showed him proof of me having a job back in the UK), and other circumstances (however, the IO put in his report that he believed that the circumstances were out of my hands and that i was mislead, so was not at fault). I left voluntarily at the time.

I'm going to assume that returning to Canada I will be stopped and asked questions since I was stopped from entering last time, just so my mother doesn't have to go through this, would it be a wise decision to apply for a visitors visas? Even though UK Citizens are exempt?

Thanks for the help.

Contact CHC London and explain the situation like you did here and ask for clarification. The Immigration officer can still deny you entry even if you have a visitors visa(or in your case a visa exempt passport).

If I contact them (had a check and it can be done via email) can I speak directly to an immigration officer and get any sort of written proof from them that I contacted them etc?

If you are a UK citizen and visa exempt I don't think you can get a TRV. Even for citizens who require a TRV, it does not guarantee that the VO at POE will grant them entry if they doubt their ties to home or motives for the trip. Perhaps having written authority from your boss for the leave and carrying proof of assets with you would provide documentation to support your case should you be questioned at POE this time. Perhaps others with more experience will add to this?

It was a bit of a complicated matter when I got stopped. I've asked this before (sort of, not directly this line of question) the IO in his report said I didn't have strong ties to my family, but he didn't ask me a single question about my family, he also listed my job title completely wrong, despite telling him twice what I did.

I'll take a letter with me this time as you said, I'll have the usual documentation as well, Passport, return flight and travel tickets, hotel check in receipt etc. My mom will be taking her marriage certificate,as well as a letter from her employer, I would think that that should be enough, and traveling with my mom this time, although not guaranteed, I would have thought that that would be enough to show that we are only there for a holiday.

I may just be over thinking this and with being stopped last time I'm kind of always thinking of the worst case scenario upon returning. I'm not sure if I can get a written letter from an IO from the London Embassy which may sort of confirm that I should be eligible to be let into the country based on what happened last time etc.

Out of interest, is it a guarantee that I will be stopped and questioned again because I was stopped last time? Also (may seem like a silly question lol) I'll be asked If I have been to Canada before, should I actually answer that as yes if I didn't get into the country?

Don't know answers to other questions but think you would be verging on misrepresentation if you said no to previous visit. Would definitely state issues and voluntary departure and clarify mistakes previously made in hope this VO would correct it in your record.
