I am applying for a study permit as a 17 year old, which makes me a minor. It is not required to appoint a custodian for a 17 year old, and I do not wish to appoint one. I was wondering, do my parents need to write a consent letter for letting their minor child study alone in Canada (which I would attach along with my LOE in the Client Information section)? Is this necessary?

Why is not required? You need a custodian if a minor. You can’t submit an application without one.

That's only true for minors under 17. If you are 17, its not required. You can submit an application without one. However, if the immigration officer feels that you cannot take care of yourself, they can ask you to appoint a custodian later on.

Sure they can write a consent letter. Assume it is for post secondary for next year.
