Applying for a PR

Hi,

I got a chance to read this forum when I was searching for something in Google. The information here is Invaluable. Great job guys.

I have a few questions to ask but before that, a short insight into my case:

My wife, who is a PR and I have been living in the same house for more than 2 years and have gotten married in October 2010 (19 months before). Now, eventually I have decided to apply for my PR under the spouse category. I have a valid study permit for another year.
I have gotten almost all the papers required for my application.

1. Is producing the phone record (calling each other) very important? I have other proofs included (like wedding and other pics, flight ticket abroad)
2. Can I apply for a open work permit and send it along with my application or should I wait until I hear from Immigration Canada that Iam eligible before applying for it?
3. Should I do the medical test now and send it along or it doesn't really matter if I do it now or later? as far as application processing time is concerned?

1. You don't have to produce phone records if you have other evidence.
2. You will only qualify for an open work permit if you applied using the inland route (rather than outland). If you do apply inland, you will qualify for an open work permit once you have first stage approval. First stage approval is currently taking approximately 11 months to complete (assuming there are no issues with the application). You should include the OWP application with the inland sponsorship application.
3. You should complete the medical before you submit the application and include evidence with the application that the medical has been done.

I have gotten some more questions now.

1.I have been hearing from various people in this forum that the outland route is slightly quicker than the inland processing?. Even though me and my wife have been living within Canada, I can still apply through the outland route right?
That is if I dont need the OWP urgently?
2.If I do decide to apply through the outland route than the inland, the only difference would be the place Iam sending my application papers right? there is no change in the forms that I have to fill out? Is there?
3. Can I just take the medical form{IMM 1017} to any clinic and get it done? Is there any other document that I would have to attach other than IMM 1017 to prove my medicals is done?

1. Whether outland is quicker depends on what country you'd be going through. You can still apply outland if you are both living in Canada.

To take the medical, you need to go to a DMP. You can find one here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx

You'll probably also need to bring your passport and some passport-style photos to the DMP. When you call to set up the appointment, they should be able to give you specifics.

I think the required documents for outland application are different from inland application. I was preparing for inland then decided to switch to outland. There are some forms that are same but other specific requirements are different. You need to read the instruction where you are going to apply very closely.

I think I have made up my mind, I would do a inland processing with my OWP request and medicals sent in with my PR application process.

After seeing the case processing time in different cities, I was wondering, if I could send my application to any of the offices in my region (I live in Vancouver, Canada so a city within the 'Americas' region) or does it have to something specific?

Inland applications are sent to CPC-V (Vegreville) for step 1; they then forward the application for step 2 - the address is toward the end of the instructions at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5289ETOC.asp.
