My partner and I are planning on migrating to Canada under the skilled worker visa next year. The debate is whether we should apply together now or wait to apply together later. We are not married, so if I apply for myself now, how long would it take for her to get a visa if I add her later? Would immigration deny her visa since I didn't put her on my initial application?

1. Are you a Common/law couple ie been residing together for a year? If so, then you have to include your partner in the application. If you don't then s/he will then not be considered a member of the family class, when you attempt to sponsor her/him it will be refused.

Yes we reside together but we live in the US right now and we are NOT registered 'domestic partners' is that still defined as a 'common law partners' to Canada immigration?

Thanks for the replies everyone. So did you add your partner right after you rec'd your skilled worker visa or was it later? Did you live w/your partner for 12 mons at the time you applied? If so, how do you go about explaining that the person was not on the application initially?

By the way, did you use an attorney to apply for the skilled worker visa or did you do it on your own?

Dear pals
I applied for Canadian immigration in regular process on 2005 and submitted all the documents required. It's still in process.I was unmarried then.
I am recently been married in 2008 and want to add my spouse. When i will inform my marital status to CIC...do i have to submit the additional documents like marriage certificate, additional proof of funds for my spouse right now when i inform them? or should i submit when they want me to update my status? Do they want me to update my status as a regular process applicant? i am not getting any point from my spouse. Does this info delayed my regular usual process? Plz help me It'd be highly appreciated.Thank you.

Thanx. Well do we both (me & my spouse) have to sit for an interview or they just call the principal applicant?
