Apply Inland or Outland?

My wife lives in Canada, and we plan on having myself come to Canada on a visitor visa (I am from the US) in January. We are currently waiting for my background check to be completed before we submit our application.

I was wondering what the Pros and Cons are for submitting an application inland v outland. We want the easiest route, with the shortest processing time.

For US shortest processing time is Outland, Inland takes too long even more than year.
In Inland application both have to stay in CA till the end of the case

Coming from the US, you have to apply outland. You will be able to land as PR probably within a year or sooner. That is definitely the easiest route with the shortest processing time.

Right now, inland processing takes almost 18 months to 2 years to complete. Not worth for American applicants to apply inland.

Wow, big difference. I asked mainly because the CIC sites processing time for New York is like 33 months, but I see people's flair say they got sponsored in like 6 months or less. What's typical for a US citizen applying outland for time?

Nothing is typical with CIC, but 6-12 months is a reasonable timeline for a standard case (no criminality/inadmissibility issues).

If you read the guides, you will see that New York does not process family class applications anymore. US citizens are processed through Ottawa.

Being a US Citizen, Outland is definately the way to go. Your looking at far shorter processing time compared to applying Inland. Also US Outland have the fastest processing times vs any other country.

The NY/LA processing time is for non-routine applications. They require further examination maybe due suspicion of marriage of convenience, criminal records, etc etc.

also, the processing times listed online are not accurate, and are misleading. ONLY spousal applications that require interviews get sent to LA, and the processing time seems to be closer to 12-16 months. As another person already stated, NY doesn't process family class applications. If an application is "straightforward" and there is no criminal, dependant or residency (ie: us work visa) issues, then the US application will process in Ottawa. Currently it's taking about 6 months for a US application to be approved in Ottawa, sometimes faster.
