Hello everyone,

I came to Canada as a visitor. I'd like to apply for a study permit. I am an Iranian citizen.

I have two question which I appreciate if you could help me with :

1.Can I apply for the study permit within Canada ? or should I apply within a Canadian embassy out of Canada ?

2.Is there a limit for how long I can stay in Canada as a visitor ? I received a multiple entry visa and I heard I can stay here in Canada for 6 month each year. Is that true ?

Thanks

1. The application needs to be sent to the visa office outside of Canada responsible for your home country. It's typically easier to apply when you are outside of Canada since you need to demonstrate ties.
2. You can stay as a visitor in Canada for however long you were admitted into Canada when you entered. If your passport was simply stamped - then you can stay six months. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply for an extension.

Thanks for the reply.

Regarding #2, I got a visa for 4 years (multiple entry). Does it mean that I can stay here for 4 years ?

Already answers in my first response. No - you certainly cannot stay for four years. You can stay for six months at most (might be less if a date was written in your passport). If you want to stay longer than the visit you were allowed when you entered Canada, you need to apply for an extension. There is no guarantee that extension will be approved.
