Hello,

I am writing to share my experience about my wife and I latest student visa application from inside Canada. We both have valid study permit till 2016, valid passport till 2016 and letters from our department confirming that we will be student here till 2016. After all, we applied, I received a 8 month visa and my wife received a 4 month visa.

Any idea?

Any similar experience?

I applied form India and received a 1 yr visa for a 2 year study permit.

My passport had 1 yr validity remaining.

Does this mean I can only stay for 1 yr in Canada?

I received an email with a letter that says I have a study permit valid till Aug 2016 which is 2 years.

On my visa I have a stamp which says 1 year but Im not sure if that is study or trv?

My passport has 1 year validity with multi entry so Im guessing thats why I got 1 year stamp.
I'm assuming the stamp is only used for crossing borders and the actual study permit which is tied to the passport number is 2 years?

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Same scene here, I'm guessing its TRV.

Found a piece on a site :

''A study permit authorizes you to study at a college/university, and is required for you remain in Canada for the duration of your studies.

A visa allows you to enter Canada. Depending on your citizenship, you may need a visa in addition to a study permit in order to enter Canada as an international student.''

The letter you received from CIC in the mail has a UCI number and that I believe has details on the study permit.
The stamp is just a TRV for entry and exit thus it will say single entry/multiple entry etc.

Im not entirely sure yet but from what I'm finding out this seems like it.

In your cases I guess the 8 months and 4 months are just duration for entering or re-entering.
Does it say single entry or multiple? As you're already in Canada a multi would make sense.

I am already in Canada, and it is multiple visa. What makes me confused is that if you have long enough study permit (over 2 years) and expiry for passport (over 2 years) with a letter from department confirming you are still studying, usually CIC issues a multiple visa for 1 or 2 years. I cannot understand what made them to issue a 4 month one.

The reason you got the 1 year visa obviously is that your pass will expire in a year, accordingly, CIC cannot issue visa over the expiry date of your passport.
