The expiry of your ETA is irrelevant. This has nothing to do with keeping your status in Canada legal. You need to apply for a visitor record before your allowed stay in Canada ends. When did you arrive in Canada? Most likely you were allowed in for the default six months unless the CBSA officer wrote another date in your passport.

HI thanks scylla,
the last entry to Canada was in June 2023 ( back and forth a few time over the last 18th months ) now still got valid ETA and got marry to a Canadian citizen this July .
so at this stage should i apply for a visitor record on line [IMM 5708] before applying for PR ?
if i am not travelling outside of country this year should i apply for a visitor record on line [IMM 5708] in August then PR in September ( getting PR documents ready in September ).

If i leave for an US short breaks this month and come back to Canada, can i request a visitor record at the POE ? is that will be quicker to apply for a visitor record at POE ? what documents do i need to proceed at the POE pls
appreciate all your suggestions

If you are planning to travel in and out of Canada in Aug 2023, you will have 6 months before your visitor status expires. You do not need a visitor record unesl you want to use it for some other process.

again the eTA is not relevant except that you will need new eTA if you plan to travel again after Nov 2023.

Apply for sponsorship and make sure that you extend your visitor status before the 6 months time is up after your trip in Aug and if you do not plan to travel after. (i.e. staying in Canada for more than 6 months)

Once you recived AOR, you can apply for OWP and that will give you implied/maintainace status.

Yeah majority of people would have physical proof of status (TRV, work permit, etc.). IRCC would know what you just said, since you’re on an eTA.

Perhaps you can include a screen shot of your result on the eTA status checker plus a brief letter with details of your most recent entry to Canada, therefore you currently hold visitor status?

1. The document checklist never asked for qualification paper. So No.
2. Again the document checklist never asked for supporting documents. Just fill the form. IRCC expect you to fill your education and work history truefully. Plus those are not that important (not deciding factor) but just background information to look at your relationship with your spouse.
3. You are a vistor when you entered with your eTA.

Thank you so much it is really helpful .
Do i need to attach a relationship narrative letter to support our application although CIC website did not mention relationship narrative letter but when i search on line some of Immigration Consulting Inc highly recommend it .

Also there is an Additional Supporting Documents to be attached
'' of Proof of Relationship and Proof of Relationship to Sponsor '' we are thinking to ask friends to write a letter from both sponsor and principal applicant side. so overall should we both write a relationship narrative letter for each other ?
