Hello,

I have applied for PR and my application is in process. I wanted to get an understanding on few points:

1. What will be the process if I get married before landing to Canada for the 1st time?
2. Do I need to land there first and get a PR card and then only I can apply for my wife's PR?
3. If I do not go with sponsorship program, is there any other way that I can apply for her PR as dependent member and then she can accompany me to Canada the first time?
4. Approximately how much time does it can take to process her application?

Thanks for the response.

Hi

1. You would have to add your wife to your current application. If you married and then landed without including her, you would never be able to sponsor her.

2. If you marry her AFTER landing, then you will need to sponsor her. As said above, if you marry before landing, she must be included in your app.

3. Options are above.

4. Depends on MANY things. You would need to provide a lot more info.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

"2. If you marry her AFTER landing, then you will need to sponsor her."

I believe that apart from sponsorship program, there is no other way that I can take her with me as dependent if I marry after landing. Please correct me if I am wrong.

During the time when this sponsorship process goes on, what are the ways that she can visit Canada temporarily?
Can we apply for her temporary work visa?

Sponsorship is the only option.

Where is she from?

If you are a dependent in your parents application then you CANNOT get married before coming to Canada and becoming a PR. If you get married before coming to Canada, then you will no longer be designated as a dependent (since you will no longer be single) and will no longer qualify for PR under your parents' application. If you want PR, your ONLY choice is to get married AFTER you become a PR and then sponsor your wife.

Are you a dependent in your parents' PR app or have you applied yourself?

I have applied for my application. Not dependent on parent's PR.
I wanted to understand, once I get the PR. After marriage, I will apply for my wife's sponsorship. During that process she can accompany me\stay in Canada on visitor's visa, right?

Also, is it necessary for me to stay in Canada till this sponsorship process gets completed?
Thanks in advance.

The easiest thing to do would be to get married before and add your wife to your current PR app. This will be faster than sponsoring her and you will be apart for less time.

There is little chance of your wife being approved for a TRV. With a spouse in Canada and a sponsorship app submitted, she would be considered a high risk to overstay.

Yes, it is necessary for you to be in Canada throughout the entire sponsorship process. You may take short, infrequent vacations but that's it.

That's fine, but just make sure if you land as PR with "single" status, make sure you are really single so only get married AFTER you become a PR.

If you get married BEFORE you land as PR, you must add your wife to your current application and you would get PR together.

If she gets approved for a TRV, she can certainly visit Canada and stay as long as the TRV is valid for. In general though it can be difficult to get a TRV when one is married to a Canadian PR.

If she enters Canada with a TRV and she applies for PR INLAND, then she can stay in Canada during entire duration of PR processing (approx 2 years).

Yes, as a PR you must be resident in Canada during entire processing time. If your wife remains in India and applies OUTLAND, then you must remain in Canada and can only take short vacations to visit her while her PR is processing. Outland for New Delhi I believe is around a 1 year process.
