Hi All
I applied for BOWP today and it is very likely that I may leave Canada before I get it.

The question is will they even issue it when they realize I am no longer in Canada?

Just to add - I am on inter company transfer and my closed WP is still valid for another 3+ months but there is nothing for me to do in Canada. Quitting to stay back is not an option..

Anyone got BOWP while not being in Canada?

They will issue you the workpermit if you are eligible for it despite you being in Canada or not. They will send it to your address in Canada. But in order for you to use the BOWP you have to be present in Canada. You can't just show up at the airport and say hey I have a BOWP, I want to work now! You have to have a valid entry visa and your BOWP.

Nevertheless it's a red flag. And it will raise their eyebrows.

I don't understand, if there is nothing for you to do here why don't you cancel your BOWP application?

Best of luck mate,

Best of luck mate,
Thanks for the response.

Here's the thing - I have a resident Visa valid for more than 4 months and I am hoping I will get a BOWP before it expires. So if I do get a BOWP, I will enter Canada with a valid resident Visa and valid BOWP. Is that a red flag still?

As to your question about cancelling BOWP application, although I don't have anything to do in Canada with my present company, I have couple of good offers, the only constraint being I cant work for anyone else right now. So I was looking at the safer option of going back to where I came from to work for my company and come back either a) when I get a BOWP (provided its legal) or b) when I get the PR.

Yep I am playing it very cautiously but I guess thats the way I am.

The way I see it, if you get your BOWP here in Canada, whilst you are still a resident in Canada, meaning you are actually present here, then you can easily apply for a TRV upon getting your BOWP and only then it's safe to leave the country and come back later.

See, the officers will check your history at the port of entry and will question you upon your arrival. Why did you leave after you got your BOWP? Why did you come back? Do you have a job in Canada right now? etc.
OR they will just pass you through without hesitation.

BOWP was introduced to the system for a reason. And the reason is that this type of work permit is issued to the people whom are awaiting their PR completion, and they are residing in Canada, so despite the fact that some of them might run out of work permit, they are still able to work and survive till the decision is made. This is the nature of BOWP and why it is applied.

You seem like a wise lad. At the end, I always say if your decisions make sense to you (considering that you're playing by the rules), then they will definitely make sense to the officers at the port and/or CIC. If you can explain yourself reasonably to yourself, then you're good to go.

Just a thought,

Just a thought,
The Best case scenario in this case would be to ask your company for a medical leave and postpone your departure from the country till the time your BOWP comes.. usually it takes 4 weeks max for BOWP to arrive. i am sure you can manage a couple of weeks leave from your company. then hopefully if you get your BOWP, then you can tell your company to either keep you inthe country on some other assignment or yuo have the option of resignation and looking for another job. at this point i am assuming that you have alrerady applied for BOWP at least 7-10 days ago. so that gives you easy 2 weeks for applying leave and postposing your forced departure
