No. PG work permit are not renewed/extended. I could have applied for this or visitor visa and stayed under implied status for approx. 3 months. Wasn't interested. Returning to my country on 27 June (WP expires on 29 June) to pursue CFA from there.

Hmm so it seems that CIO is taking around 6-10 week for Initial applications for most AORs
 
For what its worth - here's my timeline so far - I currently live/work in Canada on a WP.

Applied to CIO - Sept'09
CIO AOR - Nov'09
App Sent to Buffalo - Dec'09 (after Christmas)
AOR Buffalo - Feb '10
File Transferred to LA - Apr '10

Category applied - FSW3

Interested in seeing what the general time lines are. I have read/heard varied stories that files transferred from Buffalo to other US offices are getting processed faster.

Got a letter from Buffalo on April 6, 2010 Requesting me to submit an RCMP fingerprint based police clearance from Canada. (by email)

E-case status is still "Received by the visa office" since October 2009.
