Hello Everyone:

I had a question regarding FBI background check for those who have sent their application from the US. I sent my fingerprints and application nearly two months ago :(  and no response yet. For those of you who have your FBI back ground checks, how long did it take? I'm getting nervous here...

Thank you,
Cam
It's been more than 1 year since I requested FBI clearance so bear with me here as I would try to remember. There was an instruction to write your maximum expected date for your results (if in case it's urgent, they're willing to accomodate it if possible) on the envelope. So I did that. And I remember that I received mine even before the date I've put on the envelope. It just took between 2 to 3 weeks for me. I hope you receive yours soon!

Well here goes. In spite of repeated heeds from various forum members that be there early in the morning, I reached late. Not exactly my fault, as the hotel reception gave me incorrect timing assumptions. Anyway, I would repeat what everyone else said, be there early. In fact, try to be at the HSBC Center around 7:30 AM. Anyway, I reached there at around 8:10 AM. On entering the building, you take the Escalator up to the lobby. There as soon as you enter, there's a guy who would keep saying "Get your passport scanned and motion you to come to him". At the beginning, I was a bit surprised as to how, he could make out that I was not there for any other purpose (I mean Canadian Consulate General is not the only office in the HSBC Center). But, I guess, all others had employee tags and typical visitor visits could be to the CCG. Anyway, he scanned my passport and gave me a Visitor sticker with a number. He then asked me to proceed to the elevator past a security guard to his front and take it to the 30th floor marked with the Red Canadian flag. I did that. Upon reaching upstairs. I was greeted by the good security guy (being referred by Honolulu :) ) who just asked for ehich type of visa and then asked me to shut off my cell phone. He then motioned me as to which queue I should join. It was 8:15 AM and the queue for PRs was considerable. I was 12th in the queue and by that time a few had already been catered too. The waiting area was full, with no seats left. I was cursing myself for being late. However, I joined the queue. The queue to the left was for Visitors / Students. They were being handled by Booth 4. PRs by Booth 5. There were 2 other booths. No. 3, where some interviews were being taken. No. 6 where the Cashier was stationed. Anyway, I calculated that the officer at No. 5 was taking about 5 minutes on each applicant and so it would take until 9:15AM for my turn to come. Again I was concerned that 5 minutes ?? Is some sort of an interview being taken. However, the process fastened up a little later. My turn came at 8:50 AM. By that time, she made an announce, ent to return the stamped passports for 2 applicants already. The only questions she asked me was if I was the last person in the queue and I said no, there are 4-5 people behind me and she sighed "Ah, the line that never ends". She didn't ask me for the Authority Letter for my spouse, asked for only 2 photos each and the PPR e-mail and the passports. She entered some information for 2-3 minutes and then asked me to wait saying that I will be called by my Visitor number. I then waited in the seating area for around an hour and then was called to give me my stamped passports ;D She asked that I verify all details vefore I leave and then I am good to go. Congratulations and you are welcome to land anytime till 19th July 2010. That's it and I was off for the day.

Avayalenovo, hoping to hear the good news from you tomorrow. Just be on time, if you want to get done sooner.

That was great, when are going to land, this year or on 2011 !

You have hit me on the most pinching area :) While I want to plan, I can't at the moment, as my employer has filed for an extension of my US visa. Till a decision comes on it, I cannot leave the country. It should take another month and half. If I get the extension, then it would be easier for me to land and then start the job hunt etc. before I make the final switch. However, consider a situation that I land now and by any fortune my I-94 doesn't change, I return back to USA. Still, if my US visa is not approved, then I will need to move back to India and re-entering Canada from India will be difficult. I wouldn't have the PR card and there is no way that I can drive to Canada from India, so my COPR will not work. The PR visa is a single entry visa and I can enter as many times from USA, but not from any other country. So, 1 situation is resolved, there are other complications that remain.

In short, I do plan to land in Dec 2010. If not, then early 2011, if all goes well.

I see, actually there is no need to hurry, as you said the PR card is not gonna be issued soon, i landed on Sep 17, and my card is not issued yet, when i called the CIC call center yesterday, they checked my file, and told me that my card is waiting to be produced, and it will be mailed any time from today maximum by Nov 5th, which is 7 weeks as the immigration officer told me in the port of entry, the CIC time for issuing the PR cards is not accurate.

They even updated their website today by reducing the PR card processing time for new arrivals to be 30 instead of 32 days ! and my card has not been produced yet, and it is 33 days !

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/process-in.asp#pr_card

Anyway, i am not planning to leave Canada until i get citizenship "god willing", but i just like to have all of my documents ready with me.

Take your time, and whatever is more suitable for you in the landing process, go for it, you have already accomplished the most important part of the process which is getting the PR visa stamped on the passport.

By the way did you know that you can check your e-status using the COPR number, which is written on you PR visa under "Document No.", and on the COPR third page, top right side under "DOC NO." as well.

Best of luck.

There is no answer for this question because each case is different.

In my case they never updated the e-case to show the receipt of my medicals, until i landed and became a permanent resident, then they updated the whole thing on my e-case to show "Complete" instead of "In Process":

"A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision."

"Medical results have been received".

"You entered Canada at..........,and became a permanent resident."

Those three lines were added together after i landed by 2 days.

Your case is gonna definetly prove whether NY office has reached its targeted quota for 2010 or not yet, depending on the time they send you the PPR, and issue the visa for you.

Good luck.
