Hey professional1,
Do you remember how long did it take for in-person visa stamping at Buffalo office, if anybody arrives on time at 8:00am?

cheers
jrseee

In my case, it took my cousin almost 2 hours to get the visa stamped. Anyway, it varies from case to case.

Good luck.

Guys, I guess once we get our passport stamped, we have a specified period of time by which we have to complete our landing process. Can anyone please tell me how many months they ususlly give us and specifically from which date it starts count?

And what if the principal applicant and his wife complete their landing process seperately in two different times? Is it adviseable? If it is ok, then does it mean that both of them need to complete their landing within that specified period of time (ans of the 1st question) or only principal applicant needs to land within that time period, while the dependent can do it anytime later (may be after 1 yr)?

Appreciate your response.

You have to process landing before Oct 5 2011 (1 year from your Med Exam date). You will have one year expiration date on your Visa, but it will be after Oct 5 2011 then ;). primary applicant and dependent can be landing at different time, but again, you both have to finish the process before Oct 5 2011 if you don't want to do another Med Exam...

Hi smallduck, and Twilight871:

As smallduck mentioned the expiry date of your PR visa will be October 5, 2011 which is one year exactly from the date of doing your medicals (which means that the visa itself will not be for 12 months exactly because they will deduct the period of time between doing your medicals, and the date they issue the visa).

The second point as Smallduck said as well: You both can land separately but when doing so, the principal applicant must land first, and then the dependents can land anytime later but before the expiry date of their PR visa which is October 5, 2011 in your case.

Very important notice:

If any of you misses the expiry date of the PR visa (does not land), the visa will be considered canceled, and the entire process is gone which means that they will have to make a new application starting from the zero point again, not only the medicals. Therefore, be careful regarding that point.

Thanks pro1 for your clarification, I don't know your last point. And usually, nobody wants to miss the Expiration date which is clearly stated in the Visa...

You can try searching on the NY thread, I believe that Mark_im or another 4rum fellow had done his Med Exam in Newark at less than $300...
It should take less than 3-4 hours including X-ray, urinal tests and answering some stupid questions...
Ask for the tracking number before-hand, and give them some additional fee if they want... You want to make sure your results arrive at Ottawa ASAP.

Dear Pro 1 and Smallduck,

Thank you both for your explanations especially Pro 1 for bringing out some important points. We will not miss the deadline, planning how we gonna make it more conveniently for each other.

Hi Professional 1:

Do all family members have to be present for the visa stamping, or I can take my wife and children's passports with me, and leave them resting at home?

Thanks,
Cam

Your family members do not have to be present for visa stamping. In fact, the Consulate prefers that only one person come from each family (unless otherwise indicated).

Hi gte439u, can you make the landing alone too? (leaving family at home)

You can land first as the Principal Applicant, and your family may follow you. However, you cannot land in Canada on behalf of your family.

Every family member has to eventually present himself or herself at the Canadian border or CIC office to become a Permanent Resident.

Thank you gte439u, how about the next day, after you have landed, and are going in the morning to get your SIN cards... Your wife and children have to be there with you, Or you can get SIN cards on their behalf as well?

Thank you,
Cam

I do not know if your wife and children have to be present to get the SIN cards. Your children may not require a SIN card until they begin work.
