Dear All,
I was just wondering that as we all are going to canada and will be newcomers for that country, So does anyone have an idea regarding since we land there till to get the job, during this period can we get an unemployment benifit in Ontario?? How about any other benifits?? Just want to know before I get to that land. And will be helpful to our forum members as well.
If anyone can focus on this then will be really appreciated...
Thanks,
Mr.Binny
Hi Binny,
There is NO UNEMPLOYMENT benefit from the Govt. for newly landed immigrants. How can one get any benefit without contributing anything? The POF that you bring shall be the only financial support that you will have to rely on till you get any job. But you will have benefits from many support groups who will assist you to become independent and successful in your chosen field.
You are however eligible to get CHILD SUPPORT - CCTB....from the Govt. There are some obligations that you must fulfill first. If you want to claim SOCIAL ASSISTANCE (this is different from Un-Employment benefits), you will have to show that you are BANKRUPT.
For Unemployment benefits (called as Employment Insurance- the employer and employee contribute towards this fund in case the employee loses his job; there are other obligations too), one has to acquire atleast 700-1200hrs of paid work...this is different for province to province.
