Apart from what is right and what is wrong, this is the game:
- If no one contacts the VO, no processing delay, but we'll all stay in the darkness (which is OK since we are quite sure that we are safe, and it's just a matter of time). This is the base scenario.
- If one contacts the VO and nobody else does, he/she might get a response that calms his/her anxiety, while that will cause slight delay in the processing of all applicants, So he/she makes a gain at the expense of everyone else.
- If everybody contact the VO, most probably they will all get very late and meaningless responses, with processing delay due to the large number of enquiries. Everyone loses.
Clearly, for the public good, everyone shall refrain from contacting the VO, however, each of us will think he can benefit a little bit more by "cheating" while everyone else "complying". So everyone will cheat and we'll all end worse off :((
This is the Prisoners' Dilemma, one of the most studies problems in Game Theory.
The bottom line is, no matter how much we advice people not to contact the VO, each one has enough incentive to do and he/she will do.
:) Everyone has his opinion here - and here is mine:
I disagree with you.

I support contacting VO by early applicants!
It will not cause MUCH delay in processing (because they don't seems to answer these quesries yet!) and there is no so much early applicants (and they all have different VO). And it is for true better to know or to attract their attention. We are the first guinea pigs in this process and there is HIGH probability VOs are not keen yet in processing our applications. Just few answers without such mess as "send all your documents again"will clear things and calm everybody.

Thanks for freedom of speech :p

I actually may contact the visa office at the end of this month, but this is nothing to do with impatience but that since my company has been bought by another company I need to inform visa office of my change in employment circumstances.

I am not the principal applicant and I am still performing the same job duties, so they probably don't care much, but technically my circumstances have changed and I don't want them to phone my employers for the HR woman to answer with the name of a different company!

So I figured I would leave it until the end of January, when hopefully they received the paper file, and then just send them a quick mail information them of this minor change and asking if they require anything in writing or further info.

Wayne.

Well, my intention was not to advice with or against contacting the VO! I was just trying to explain the behaviour of people and to show that any attempt to convince them not to contact the VO or any agreement among us not to do so won't succeed, simply because there is strong personal incentive in doing it, even IF this will be against the interest of the entire population (which I'm not sure about). This is one of the facts of life.
Personally, as I mentioned earlier, I emailed the VO enquiring about my application. And of course I'm not trying to prevent anyone from doing the same.
And indeed, thanks for the freedom of speech.

I didn't receive my PER yet, still very early to worry but
I support contacting VOs by eary applicants because if the received reply was true [which is not matching the post 26 june processing rules or even new rule aim] then the early applicants are losing valuable time needed to prepare the long list of "Original Douments " once more.

Also if all the members here convinced not to call VOs to avoid affecting the processing time, I don't think that will control all the PERs receivers all over the world who are not members here

Cheers

Hi Wayne, Indira and Hasib: OK, I'm up now. NO WONDER I couldn't sleep with all that nattering going on! Only joking, I am basking in the glow of all the attention. I was also concerned about getting information from CIO, not being the PA, however I am the representative. Having said that, if CIO are not "in possession" of the application, they have no written proof. I provided all information they requested and then the conversation began. (Name, address, birthdate, VO, Passport number of PA as well as my own ID.) Time for breakfast here and PAST time for CIO to get those PERs out! Good luck all.

I like this film "A beautiful mind". This lose-lose, lose-win situation is very illustartive, but not under this community :) We can play a team, at least some of us. When I was waiting for my PER, only this forum was stopping me from calling them. It was like a non-smoking or drinking friend inspiring you not to start again :)

By the way, I plan to contact my VO in a week from now. I will ask them about my PCC that is not attached and propose to send it now (and ask about my file - received, considered, in a que etc.).

So, what if i have ALL the info on the application, and i'm the spouse of the PA? Will they care to answer my questions? I'm not mentioned as a representative in the application :(. Anyway i don't plan to call them very soon. May be mid Feb, if i don't get a expected response(PER :p) by then.

Thanks,

Indira Prabhakaran.

Yeah, you can try..I feel it varies from VO to VO..As we have a friend from Taipei who regularly got replies for his querries from his VO(Taipei)..But i didn't received any from mine(ND)
GOOD LUCK!
I wish a lucky reply from any VO may clear our ongoing Post-PER doubts..

Wayne,

I'm at work and I don't have the copy of our application with me. Clarify something for me please. Did you have to provide contact info for your employer? I know you mentioned you were not the PA on your application and that's my case as well but what I don't remember is having to give details about spouse's employers. They wanted spouse's occupation ; the spouses employer also appears under activity since 18th birthday. How are they going to contact my employer I didn't provide full details ( address, phone number, person of contact...) Again , I'm at work and I don't base my comment on anything other than my recollection.

Hi. For work references, at least for London visa office, you have to give references for principal applicant AND SPOUSE for current and past employers, including business cards. Where business cards are not available full contact details should be given. This is to help CHC with verification of employment.

So I gave references from my current employer and my previous employer. Obviously the company name has now changed for my current employer so I want to inform CHC of this in case they try contacting my employer and the HR woman answers with the name of a different company!

You may wish to check your own visa-office specific wording for the exact requirements for your visa office, but I would imagine all the visa offices require references for both principal application and spouse.

Wayne.

Indira: Based on my experience, I think as the wife of the PA and named in the application you would have no trouble getting the information. Note, I said "think".....

I guess my misunderstanding comes from us having different VO's.
Buffalo expects the following from a spouse.

For the accompanying spouse or common-law partner:
•original and up-to-date letters of reference, including all details as specified above1 , in respect of any employment in Canada under a work permit.
•a copy of the work permit.

1. Above were specified complete details for work references for PA. My understanding is Buffalo requests spouse work references only if he/she has worked in Canada.
