Cool Indira - sorry if you answered this, but are you landing in Toronto or Vancouver? Seem to remember you were undecided last time I enquired! :)
Wayne.
I remember replying to you for this question sometime back :). We will land in Toronto and then see if we can move :) into a better place.

Thanks,

Oops ??? ???
I hope the Indian embassy in Ireland is able to issue a fresh passport soon :).
Thanks, Indira Prabhakaran.
I went to the Indian Embassy this morning and the guy said we will have to get new passports and it will take 6 weeks. The fellow was so rude that there was a Irish Lady behind me who was more embarrased at his tone.

He was almost implying that we damaged the passports. I was going to say that it is the stupid inferior quality that you guys produce that gets it messed up but i knew this thick skinned moron on the desk was not worth a piece of my mind. The passport is only two years old.

This will delay the stuff but i am not in a hurry.

Hey ok cool, best of luck! :) We are getting the visas this Thursday (21st July) and land in Vancouver on 27th August, and are subletting a 1-bedroom apartment from Queencougar's husband who is already there working in Canada. We'll return to the UK on 9th September and then one of us (probably me) will go back permanently around 1 month later.

Hi m8,

Sorry to hear of this delay :( But if you are in no hurry then at least it is nothing more than a delay! PPR means you will definitely get visa.

We go to collect ours this Thursday so will let you know how we get on.

Folks, Our tickets are booked for 10th Sep for Chennai - London - Toronto. We are trying to find a place to rent before we land in vain. We are looking at Mississauga currently. Almost all of the listings on the craiglists etc., are like, they need personal references, pay-stubs and employment contracts to sign a minimum 1 year lease. We thought a 6 month lease would make us more comfortable in case we will need to move to some other place, for jobs etc.,
Anyone living there and can help us on this regard with info?
Thanks, Indira Prabhakaran.
Indira,

For Indian Passports travelling thru London, you will require a Airport Transit Visa for UK. This is as expensive and tedious as a normal visit visa to UK. If you have the visa then its alright. If not, I suggest going via Amsterdam or Frankfurt which do not require transit visas the last time i checked.

House selling is terrible. We've had to drop the price from £137,950 to £129,950 (now fully £15,000 less than we paid for it!) just to get our first proper viewing. We've also offered to include the white goods in the kitchen (since we won't need them) and pay the stamp duty on the sale.

Hoping we can at least have an offer in place by the time we land at the end of August. But just so damn annoying, last year our house was valued £140,000 to £145,000!! The reason we didn't sell then was because we had 1 year left to run on our fixed rate mortgage and didn't want to pay the £5,000 penalty - but now that mortgage provider (Northern Rock) is writing to customers saying they are waiving the penalty for early redemption. Why couldn't they do that last year???

Thankfully we have saved up our settlement funds separately to our house equity, so we have enough bank funds to land anyway, but the equity loss is very annoying.

Ah well, it's only money ;) Once we get to Canada rent will be cheap so we can save up for a decent house deposit over a few years.

Well I will be having PR card delivered to the apartment we are renting. It will take 4 to 6 weeks probably (but could be longer) so it won't be ready for when I plan to travel to Canada permanently, so I may have to get a travel visa so the airline won't kick up a fuss with a one way ticket (although still need to look into whether passport with visa and COPR documentation will suffice).

I think if you have a valid permanent resident visa for canada or US and onward bookings to these countries it does not apply, but do confirm this as this was true at least a year ago.

Well you may be right but few years ago i had a european work visa and they still wanted me to have a transit visa. I just changed my ticket. But as you say, it is good to confirm this than to have a last minute panic.
