Hi Seniors (Asivad & others),

Me and my husband are thinking of possibilities to immigrate to Canada. I am done with my IELTS exam and awaiting results. Even if I max out on CLB, our CRS would be 437 only (I have a bachelor's degree & 3+ years of Work Experience-2174). Both of us are done with our ECAs. With Ontario slowing down their Invitations now, I cannot see getting an ITA soon.
So, another option available to us is through applying for a Master's degree in Canadian Universities, so that eventually we would fall under CEC category. And meanwhile the spouse can have a work permit for the same duration as the student visa. But, we are stuck with some questions on this:
1) Will the work permit attained in this manner, fetch jobs smoothly without any discrimination with PRs/ Citizens?
2) After some research on pay scale, I gather that a Masters in IT/ Computer Science, does not really fetch a significant pay when compared to Bachelor's in the same field. Is this true?
3) My husband is a Chartered Accountant (India), also pursuing his CPA-US currently. How will a Masters in Accounting & Finance from a Canadian University boost his Career and overall Skill Development. This is the case, if he go for Master's degree, & I work for NOC 2174.

Hoping for an expert advice on the same.

Thank you in advance.

I can speak from the experience of my friends (a few), who went that route (i.e. taking masters degree course and then getting a job), no one complaints now, all found jobs and settled down very very well.

However, it is difficult with family shall i say? I think looking at your description you can qualify for some PNPs programs? Have you checked?

Anyhow - i know i am not much of a help, but good luck.

1. So most of what I hear is that alot of jobs will give preference to Citizens and PRs before WP holders.
2. No idea
3. It would definitely increase his market value in Canada - having a Canadian degree.

However, my personal advice is that you go EE route. I was at the same crossroad a little over a year ago. I was considering education for my spouse while i work on Open WP. However, weighing the benefits of EE versus going study route made me choose EE route.
First of all you get a very reduced rate on fees as PR. International students pay a hefty sum for fees. Save the money.
Secondly, you need to show much more funds for student visa than for PR
Thirdly, you still stand the chance of being rejected for Student Visa, whereas for EE, once you meet the requirements and submit required docs - you can be fairly confident.
Lastly, even though you dont have up to 450/460 points - you can always get a province to nominate you. I would suggest you create your EE profile, even if Ontatio doesn't extend you a PT notification of interest, there are always other provinces: SK, MB, NB, NS & PEI who are very open to foreigners with little or no ties.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the reply. Yes, even we are inclined towards the EE way only, just thinking loud of other options too.
I see from your inline message, that you have been nominated by Saskatchewan. Once landed, could you please share your experiences on the same.
