Hi,

I've just discovered this forum, so glad I did. Have spent some time reading through threads and hope to be able to contribute and share my experience.

I am an Australian applying for permanent residency to live indefinitely in the ever so lovely Canada, but thats not the only reason for crossing the seas. My partner is Canadian and she is sponsoring my application. We had sent through all the mountains of paperwork required and have since been waiting for a case file number. It's now been more than 2 months with still no peep from immigration Canada

I spent a great deal of time and energy trying to track down my application to no avail, faxes went nowhere, emails were'nt responded to and after coresponding with the Sydney office here in Australia I managed to get hold of a direct phone number. I had a family member in Canada make the call to the office in Mississauga which ofcourse required a case number to get through to someone.

Spoke with an immigration specialist who told me it is not uncommon to have to wait 3 months   before hearing from them if your application is deemed 'non standard'. The only thing I can think of is that might make the application 'non standard' would be the fact that we did'nt attach our fees to the application (being advised that we could do this at a later date) If this is all it is we would pay today if they would let us know.

So after that long winded spiel/vent, would anyone happen to have a phone number or email address so I can find where my application parked?

1. If you didn't attach the application fees, then your application is going no where. It is probably winging its way back to your spouse as soon as it is opened. By the way the sponsorship takes about 66 days in Mississauga these days for approval/refusal of the sponsorship.

Thanks PMM for the quick response.

So looks like Im in for at least 66 days from when I get it back :( All because of a fee I could've paid months ago  Last time I take the word from an immigration expert.

Do you happen to know if I'm up for another set of application costs?

1. You said you didn't pay the fees originally? Do you mean that you paid the application fee of $550 but NOT the RPRF of $490?
2. If you paid the $550 then the application will be processed, the $490 just has to be paid before the visa is issued.
3. So if the $550 is paid then your sponsor will get the refusal/approval letter and the application will be sent to Sydney.

Sorry I mean't to say postage costs :-[ I presume I would have to incurr these costs again seeing that it would be deemed from their end that it was my error on not paying the application fees in the first place.

So once the sponsor (my partner) gets the approval/refusal letter and payment is made straight away and we re send the complete application again, are you saying it's then 66 days for the Mississauga portion and then a further amount of time for the Sydney portion not including the time we have been waiting to receive an approval/refusal?

Thanks for your prompt and informative replies.

We are now pushing up close to 90 days since our application was received on Canadian soil. This seems an awfully long time to wait to be told whether we get a case Id or not ???

Does anyone know how we can make contact with the Mississauga office?
