Hello,

I received notification today that I was approved to sponsor my common law parter...it took 21 days. We applied outland and our closest office is London (we are in Ireland) but I look on the letter I got and it says the application is being sent to Ottawa?? What does this mean? Should I be worried or did I do something wrong??

If anyone knows any info on this please let me know.

Thanks

A lot of straight-forward cases are being sent to Ottawa instead of London. I think it's because London started processing cases from Pakistan, and they have their hands full, so the Ottawa office is taking the easier cases.

I'd say everything is going well so far!

Nothing to worry about. London is a bit bogged down with applications so some are going to Ottawa .

Thanks! Congrats to you as well :) Can I ask how long it took for them to give you SA?? It took us exactly three weeks from the time they received the application by mail...I am in shock....hoping for quick processing time of stage 2 now! :)

Thank you so much! We recived AOR after 39 days and 6 days later we got SA, so all together 45 days :) Im also so suprised! SA is what I was most nervouse about cause my husband lives with me here in Sweden so we needed to include proof of him returning to Canada once my PR is done, but it all went well, they didnt request any extra information and it all went so fast! When I first saw the email I got scared cause I never expected it to be done already :)

Pretty much the same story is ours. My wife, Canadian citizen, sponsoring me (Dutch spouse). We both live and stay in Holland until permanent resident is granted for me. Which VO treat your application? Wish you guys a good process!!

Sorry, I see it's Ottowa! :)

Just so you know, requests for proof of intent to return to Canada are generally sent further into the process than sponsor approval, from the VO processing the applicant. I don't think I've ever seen such a request before SA.

But isn't proof of return part of the sponsorship application? Doesnt make sense that they would ask for that later on when they are processing the applicant. Not questioning what you are saying, just wondering how cic are thinking there :)

lol yeah my visa office is Ottawa, reading here and there on the forum that it seems they are picking up speed there. I'm just happy it didn't end up beeing London, seems like they are stuck there, feel so bad for whoever is still waiting to hear from them :(

I see you're office is Ottawa aswell! I wish you and your wife a smooth process aswell! :)

Mississauga checks that you are generally eligible (not bankrupt, not in default of another sponsorship, not on welfare, etc), and then forwards it to the VO. If you are a citizen living abroad, there's usually a note indicating that the VO should decide for themselves if they are satisfied with the proof of intent to reside.

I was approved as a sponsor without any issues, then got a request for more proof, along with my spouse's passport copies. That was then followed up with a request for the physical passport.

Ahh I see! Thank you for clearifying that for me! :)
And all along I thought that was part of the sponsorship application and I was so nervouse if we had included enough proof of return, it's impossible to get a lease or job offer from over here when we're not sure exactly when we are gonna return :(

Ottawa appear a bit more strict about 'proof of return' as we found out. If you do get asked for more the best advice I got was to write a detailed plan about your intentions to move back and try and supplement this with actual intent. For example if you need qualifications recognised in Canada show you are undertaking this or if you have kids show emails contacting schools etc.

Thank you for your advise! We did include a detailed document explaining what our plans are, letters from our friends and family were they write we have told them about our plans to return, emails between us both and colleges we are applying for, facebook statuses etc...we did send alot of stuff..just not really what cic asks for :( My husband is actually applying to college very soon so Im guessing he will get some kind of confirmation of his application and reciept of payment that we can use as proof if they ask for more :) Hopefully it will be enough to convice them!
