Application status confusion

Hello. Although new to this forum I have found some very helpful info here since I started my application to sponsor my wife but never signed up.
I sent in my application on the 23rd of May of this year. It was received by the Mississauga office and signed off. I checked the online processing times and waited for an email telling me that they had at least opened my file for processing. After waiting for a while I called the call center on August the 8th. The lady I spoke with was very helpful and she told me my file had been opened for processing and the sponsorship evaluation had also been passed. She told me that I should expect an email around the 15th of August stating all this info. Since I never received anything (and cannot access online) I tried to call them again today. I spoke to a gentleman who was not really that helpful but regardless he checked on the status for me. He told me that the file had been opened but that's all the info that he had the right to see. He also told me that I should have received an email saying that the process had begun and that it is impossible that I did not. I told him I had checked my email frequently and also checked my junk mail frequently just in case but never got anything. He said that all he can do is put a request for information on my file and after 90 days I will know the status. This does not seem normal to me. I am thinking of calling them again in hopes of getting another answer. It was also strange that when I told him that the other agent gave me a different story regarding my app status, he said that she was probably mistaken and she should have never given me this info.
I hope that some of you here can give me some feedback regarding this situation.
I would greatly appreciate it!

its completely normal to get different answers from the call center, it happens all the time. i suggest calling back again tomorrow, though now that they have put a case specific inquiry in, they may not be able to tell you anything for 90 days. during that time, don't be surprised if you get your SA letter. again, normal.

Thanks for the reply. I will try and give them another call tomorrow and see what happens. I find it strange however that I did not receive an email from them. Also pardon my lack of knowledge but what do you mean by SA letter?

it's what we call on the forum "sponsor approval", the email will not specifically say the sponsor is approved, just that they have been found "eligible" to sponsor.

it may not be as strange as you would think, it's just one of the mysteries of CIC. CIC doesn't seem to be sending applicants AORs (acknowledgement of receipt) for the applications. it seems to be very sporadic right now. When the sponsor has been found eligible, then an email would be sent to the sponsor. sometimes cic will keep people on their toes and actually send it through the mail. it seems very random. there are also other recent applicants that also have the same experience as you.

Ah ok. I understand. Thanks for clearing this up for me. I didn't think it would be unorganized like this. Good to know that this is a normal occurrence and not something specific with me.
I appreciate all your help. :)

I guess the question in the end should be, did you file an OUTLAND application, or an INLAND application?

If you filed INLAND, you might just sit down and relax. It will be a while yet before you know anything.

If you filed an OUTLAND application, then by all means, feel free to call them, but it does appear normal that sponsors are waiting a bit longer than what we used to see as 'normal' to get their approvals. You are only a couple months since application sent, so you aren't out of the ordinary for what has been seen in the recent months.

@taffy7 I guess I just have to wait. A friend of mine did the same procedure and they emailed him every step that is why I became a bit worried. Especially with the controversial responses from the two agents at the call center. But I guess, unfortunately for me and others who sent in their apps in this timeframe are going to have to wait longer.

@Alurra71 I filed outland. If it was inland I would gladly sit down and relax because I would have my wife here in the country :p
But as I said, I was expecting at least an initial email saying that they had opened my file. And it was quite strange for me that two agents from the call center who have access to my file gave me two different answers. But now I found out that this seems to be normal procedure. I will be calling them again today though. Third time's a charm. (Hopefully)

Just an update.
I spoke with the call center again and this time the gentleman I spoke with told me that I had been approved as a sponsor and that currently the application is in the Rome office for step two. He also gave me my client id which I did not have. I logged in and I saw all the info there. They had made a decision on the 29th of July and they forwarded the file for step two.
So i guess third time's a charm after all :p.
Thanks to all of you for your feedback :)
