Hi Guys,
I have been a silent member of this forum for a while and I must say you guys are doing a great job guiding Pakistani students.

I have a question, I am living in Malaysia for about 4 years now and have a masters in electrical engineering from here. Now I have applied for Masters in electrical engineering in Canada. I have excellent academics and good experience in this field so I am hopeful to secure an admission. However since my Masters degree from Malaysia and the degree I am planning to peruse in Canada will be similar, would that give rise to some problems?

(a) should I not mention this Masters degree in Malaysia on my visa application form?
(b) shoud I mention it but try to explain it in my study plan / sop?

What is the opinion of the forum members here ? Senior Members which I have seen helping other a lot like qamalik729, momi, akif momin, waseemahmed45 or Arsalan can please input their valueable opinions here ?

Basically i have also done Master's in Computer Science from Pakistan and again going for Master's in Applied computer science in Canada (both degrees are almost same but courses are advance in nature) , so i described the difference in my SOP and also mentioned the degree in my visa application forms....... I think if your profile is strong and the proposed course is not on the same level or lesser level then you will not have any problem...........

Thanks for the prompt input. This seems to be my problem. The Masters I have done is from a very reputed university. And the Master I will eventually take up (M.Eng, not MASc) will be most probably similar to what I already have. I am completely at a loss here as to how to proceed forward.

Describe in your SOP that what is the difference between the courses and what benefits you will get after completing your proposed course ............... OR change your proposed course (have some specialization)..........

If you don't mind sharing I saw on your profile that you had to go through medical examinations more than once? Is that a common occurrence or you were the 'lucky' guy?
One more thing if you can share your views on, how important is GRE for Canadian Masters applications? I have seen almost all universities don't require it but most do state it as 'recommended'! Would you say that I should go through the trouble to take GREs, or would it be any help for my visa application.

I am sorry for being a 'stuck' guy here, but you seem to be quite friendly and informative on the subject. Please bear with me. I will buy you lunch sometime if we both ended up in Canada

As far as medical is concerned i am really lucky, they want to check every bit of me. GRE is good for enhancing your chances for admission / visa, but in my opinion if you are not going for research degree (Master or PHD) or you are not claiming any scholarship that skip it............

Can you tell me your master degree in computers science is MS(CS) or MCS which is equivalent to undergraduate in pakistan.

It is M.Sc. (CS) after Bachelor. .............

It is M.Sc. (CS) after B.Com. and M.Com.............

I think it is equal to 16 years education. M.Sc. (CS) = MCS => B.S or B.Sc(h) (4 year)

You can change degree direction. What about Master of Engineering management? It has advanced course and chances of visa will be high.
Write strong study plan and convince them on benefit and course is not available in Malaysia.
