So me and my boyfriend sent off our application on May 1st, and it was received on May 5th.
I received an email from CIC about a week and a half ago confirming that they have received our application.

Now its almost been a month and I was wondering how long most applications "lay around" until they start processing them?

What is your guys' experience?

We filed inland, common law, my bf is canadian citizen by birth and I'm german.

It's so weird how inconsistent CIC is in handling these things. You received communication much more quickly than we did. Also, you received it by email. We provided email addresses, but our only communication has been through snail-mail.

I'm American, and my Canadian husband is sponsoring me inland. Our application arrived at CIC on October 23, 2012. The first communication we received from CIC was a snail-mailed letter dated January 28, 2013. At that time, we were able to pull up our information on ECAS. According to ECAS, they started processing my husband's sponsorship application on December 19, 2012. We're in Quebec, so that January letter prompted us to get the certificate we needed from Quebec's immigration office (Certificat de Sélection du Québec - CSQ - which only Québec applicants need). Now, we're back to waiting.

The CIC website estimates that Stage 1 (evaluation/approval of the sponsor) for inland applications takes 6 months. Many of us are experiencing longer wait times right now. On that same page, the website states they are working on applications received October 8.

My application was received 7 months and one week ago (but who's counting, ha!), and we are still waiting for Stage 1 approval and AIP. I spoke with a representative at the CIC Call Centre today. She was very friendly but unable to tell me anything new. I mostly wanted to verify that my police certificate and medical had been received, since I sent them after the application, but since they aren't working on my file yet, she had no way of verifying their receipt.

So, that's my story. Welcome to the waiting game!

Yes they just lay around until they get around to them. Usually about a month, but it depends on how long it says on CIC.

We never heard from CIC until I got a form that my husband signed on the wrong spot (nicely done honey haha). So, we applied in March, got a letter in June-ish, then got approved two weeks after we sent the form back correctly signed. ECAS went in process in August, then we waited.... and waited... and waited some more! Finally got PPR in November (The 16th, Which is when his medicals expired). We sent the PP three days after we got the PPR and sent a Prepaid envelope to LA (We were having his PP sent back to TN so it would be faster.. so we thought). It gets to TN on the 17th of Dec, and it didn't reach Canada until Jan 4th.. Yeah. Mostly because CP is filled with idiots in the processing centres. The tracking STILL says it's in Montreal (I checked just to see what it said). I'm not even in Quebec!

So it's normal to just have them sitting there until they come to yours. I hope they do come to yours soon!!! Settle in for a nice long wait though haha.

inland processing for first stage is 6 months. So - sit back and relax. You're in for a long ride.
Good luck,

Thanks for all the comments and wishes :)

Yea but the 6 months start the moment they begin processing it,right? So I was just curios as to how long they lay around until they start processing it. I figured the moment or lets say some days after they receive it ,they start working on it,but I guess I was wrong. Just wondering,if the applications lay around for idk lets say 3 months, then they should really mention that on the CiC site and not just first stage =6 months, because it will technically take 6 months + however long the application laid around to get first stage approval.

6 months starts when the application has been received by CIC. Part of these 6 months is just being in the queue to be reviewed, and part of that is processing once the file is opened. 6 months is an average, as the queue length varies depending on how many applications get in, and of course the processing part is different for each application.
Good luck,
Sweden

Then you wait, and wait and wait until they contact you.
