Dear all,

I am a canadian citizen. My wife's a U.S. permenant resident. My wife's application for PR has been in 'In Process' state for 15 months now, which is more than the normal processing timeline for Buffalo, NY visa office.

I have tried to request an update from Buffalo, NY visa office by email, but the only response that I have got back was:

"We have requested background information from other government office, and unfortunately we can not provide a date when your
application will be finalized"

They haven't requested anymore documents. I am not sure what/why it takes so long. Has anyone else been/are in similar situation? Any advise will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a very long security background check. It maybe have to do with her country of birth and her travels.

Toledo, I know how it feels; I know how you must be feeling. It is really frustrating especially when you know that there is nothing that they're going to find with these ridiculous extensive background checks. It is even more frustrating when you see that applications sent after yours to the same visa office are being finalized before yours.

Our fates are in the hands of these immigration/visa officers.

Who requests these background checks, the visa officers? And when they run a routine background check and it comes up clear why do they need to dig even further? And when they dig further, and that comes up clear, why do they need to dig even further than that?

Hang in there Toledo! We'll all get through this! I know it's a long and hard process, especially when we pass the average expected time period.

SadGirl, I hope you will never be sad again.

So, have you recieved a response, eventually? If yes, how long did it take for them to give you a response?

PMM,

Can you elaborate more on that please? If it has to do with the country of birth and/or travels, then what can I expect? how long its gonna take for them to finally give a response?

Thanks again for your inputs.

Toledo, unfortunately I have not received any response whatsoever. Everytime I call or email to see what's going on they tell me that they are awaiting the results of routine background checks and that they will write to me (or my husband) when they are in a position to do so.

I spoke to the man that conducted my husband's interview and he told me that the case went for routine background checks and the results came back and then from those results they wanted to do further background checks but he never elaborated on what they were looking into.

It's just bad luck! :( All of this is a waste of time because my husband is clean. They're keeping us apart for this long for no reason!!!

Yep 28 months and counting
Paddyboy, you've been waiting for 28 months??? What do they have to say for themselves; why 28 months? Are they stuck on background checks as well? What visa office is your application at?
