Hi All,

If we apply for tourist visa, there is a question - "Do you have a family member who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and is 18 years or older?" and as per the cic site -
the definition of family member is "An applicant's closest relatives, in the context of an application to IRCC. It is defined as a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children" and

the definition of Permanent Resident is "A permanent resident of Canada is a person who has been granted permission to remain in Canada on a permanent basis but who is not a Canadian citizen."

Now in this case, if from a family, the application of their child has been approved and he has not landed yet and as the child is not dependent upon them monetarily - can the ans to this question be marked as No? Because he will be carrying his POF funds and will be showing the same at POE.

And his parents will be showing their POF at the POE and they will be showing strong ties to their home land.

Please suggest that now in this case, what should be the answer to this question?

Hi,

The answer would be 'No' because he has not landed yet. However, in the cover letter/similar document, the parents must provide details/mention he is expected to land shortly.

A word of caution:
If the parents are applying for TRVs to accompany the son when he lands as a PR + settles in, they would be risking TRV refusals as it would seem like the parents are also moving to Canada.

It would be best if the son travels alone/independently.... lands as a PR.... settles in..... and then invites his parents for a short, finite visit after some months

Cheers

Thank you for the reply. If in case they land before him and say that they are only here to roam around and will be going back in a month and show itinerary and proper hotel booking then will it strengthen their case?

Please suggest.

When his parents declare him in the 'Family Information' form, IRCC would know that he has a CoPR.

It's difficult to suggest factors that would strengthen their applications without knowing more details. For example:
1. Have they traveled abroad to countries like the US, UK, Schengen, Australia, NZ, etc?

2. Are they employed or retired?

3. Do they live with any other dependent family members? etc etc

Hi Bryanna,

Thanks for the reply. They have never travelled out of their home country. His mom is a home maker and father is a business man and a younger brother who is also working.

They are not monetarily dependent on anyone. Also, as son has shown his pof, they will be showing theirs.

They have house amd shop registered against their names. One is on mom's name and one is on father's.

Now, please suggest.

I would still recommend that they wait until the son has landed, settled in, etc before they apply for TRVs. It's their call though

Thank you Bryanna for the help. Sorry, but one more small query. If the son lands and after a week of his landing, can they apply for TRV - with the reason of helping him to settle down or to roam around the country? As by this time also, he will be unemployed.

Please suggest.

I would certainly not mention about 'helping him to settle in' as the purpose of visit + I would wait for a few months after he lands before his parents apply

Hi, hope you are fine and doing well.
my parents case was rejected for their visitor visa 3 month ago with following reasons

1) You have not satisfied me that you would leave Canada at the end of your stay as a temporary resident. In reaching this decision, I considered several factors, including:
-- ( my parents dont have any one in PAKISTAN, they are 70 plus. all siblings are in canada . we all are PR.)
2) Family ties in Canada and in country of residence
-- (my parents dont have any one in PAKISTAN)
3) Length of proposed stay in Canada
( LAST TIME I APPLIED FOR 5 MONTHS, NOW I AM APPLYING FOR 1 MONTH )
4) Personal assets and financial status
( LAST TIME I SHOWED $9975 CAD NOW I AM SHOWING $11800 CAD)

* I AM ALSO SHOWING MP LETTER THIS TIME, LAST TIME I DID NOT SHOW.0
* MY PARENTS DONT WORK, MY FATHER RECEIVES RENT FROM HOUSE AND PENSION.
* IS IT NECESSARY TO SHOW MONTHLY INCOME STATEMENT OF MY FATHER ( THOUGH I AM SHOWING BANK STATMENT OF 4 MONTHS) ???

PLEASE ADVISE THANKS ( URGENT BECAUSE I AM APPLYING WITH IN 10 DAYS) . i am applying again to submit their case online.

thank you so much .
